Description

The Associate Director of News and Information  is an accomplished communications professional who executes communications strategies with a deep understanding of large complex academic and health care organizations. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works to develop communications goals and strategic media relations campaigns.
  • Helps prepare for media interviews, develop press conferences, and create materials for media relations and public affairs.
  • Works collaboratively with Emory University's media relations team to identify media outlets, develop contacts, and place news, features, and opinion pieces.
  • Develops and implements media relations and/or publications programs and oversees media relations and/or publications for specific colleges and schools.
  • Assists in strategic public relations planning and implementation including, media relations, publications and periodicals, crises communication and issues management.
  • Develops relationships with journalists and oversees and implements new methods for media relations efforts.
  • Edits texts and works with clients and designers to produce publications.
  • May supervise staff and production of news and public information materials. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism or related field, and five years experience in writing, editing or public relations, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience as a media relations professional, writer and editor.
  • Demonstrated creative communications and business skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize and articulate strategic communications plans with an understanding of the diversity of the internal and external audience.
