Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Department Manager to lead our Highways & Traffic Engineering team in Central New York! 


As part of our team you’ll develop and maintain client relationships, manage projects, and procure new partnerships from Syracuse to Binghamton and Watertown. You will oversee, direct, and manage existing staff and build your own team. You’ll collaborate with established, reputable transportation leaders discipline wide and serve clients ranging from the New York State Department of Transportation and New York State Thruway Authority to Onondaga County, the City of Syracuse, the City of Binghamton, and more.

Responsibilities
  • Establish short and long-range business objectives, goals, and plans.
  • Identify, retain, and mentor staff in sound technical and business practices.
  • Oversee staff development and advancement.
  • Identify, track, develop proposals for, and win new project opportunities.
  • Assign projects to staff and schedule work.
  • Provide staff with technical assistance and supervision in the execution of assigned projects.
  • Oversee the development of design tasks and complete reviews to ensure the quality of client deliverables.
  • Complete production work as needed and appropriate.
  • Attend client, business development, and other professional meetings or events.
  • Provide technical and managerial leadership to their staff and project teams.
  • Share expert knowledge and collaborate with other disciplines as needed.
  • Manage activities to realize adequate profit on all projects.
  • Monitor monthly productivity and utilization, adjusting as needed.
  • Work with billers to authorize and transmit client invoices. Follow up to ensure payments.
  • Evaluate employee performance in accordance with company policy.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
  • 10+ years of highway and/or traffic engineering experience with increasing responsibility required. Proposal and project management experience desirable.
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license required; PTOE is a plus.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership across multidisciplinary project teams.  
  • Ability to develop new business with clients both familiar and unfamiliar with our firm.
  • Ability to form and build effective teams.
  • Ability and willingness to manage multiple projects and workload with competing deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Strategic thinker, effective delegator, and strong business acumen. 
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $149,500 to $193,400 (depending on qualifications)
