Job Description
The School of Education, Social Work, and Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri-Kansas City is continuously seeking qualified candidates for adjunct faculty teaching positions.
The Department of Psychology and Counseling offers undergraduate coursework in psychology and graduate coursework in counseling and clinical psychology.
THE INTENT OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS TO IDENTIFY A POOL OF ADJUNCT FACULTY WHO ARE QUALIFIED TO DELIVER UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE LEVEL COURSES IN THE DIVISION OF COUNSELING AND EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY.
Responsibilities of UMKC Part-time Academic Members include:
  1. Create and maintain civil, inclusive and engaging learning environments
  2. Deliver curriculum through high quality course instruction
    1. Articulate clear learning objectives for students in the course
    2. Clearly communicate expectations and course requirements
    3. Provide high quality instruction
      1. Engage students in active and creative learning activities
      2. Engage students in critical thinking, problem solving, creative activity and reflection
    4. Create course materials (e.g., rubrics, handouts) as needed to effectively deliver curriculum and assess student learning
    5. Use technology to enhance learning
  3. Assess student learning of course objectives
    1. Use a variety of evaluation methods
    2. Use the early alert system to identify students at risk of failing, when applicable (UMKC Connect)
    3. Provide students with prompt, objective, fair feedback on their work
    4. Assign grades and maintain student records in accordance with university policy
  4. Adhere to and model university standards of professionalism
  5. Be accessible to students for conferences / consultations
  6. Engage in critical self-reflection and professional development

Appointment Details:
This is a part-time, non-benefit position. Hours vary according to opportunity. Appointment periods are for the semester with consideration for reappointment.
Qualifications
  • Appropriate minimum degree for the level of class being taught
  • Master's degree in Psychology or a related field to teach Psychology undergraduate courses
  • Master's degree in Clinical or Counseling or Counseling Psychology or Psychology, or a related field, plus related experience to teach in the Counseling Masters program
  • Doctoral degree in Psychology to teach in the Clinical Psychology graduate program
  • Experience/training relevant to the content area being taught
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to urban issues
  • Licensure or certification, if applicable

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience teaching at the university level
  • Familiarity with various online management systems (e.g., Canvas)

Anticipated Hiring Range
A flat adjunct salary is determined on a per-course basis.
