Job description

The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health at Childrens Mercy is recruiting two clinical psychologists with expertise in child and adolescent behavioral health to provide evidenced-based psychological evaluations and intervention for a range of presenting concerns in our new medical office building in Wichita, KS that will be opening in 2026.  Referrals to the Developmental and Behavioral Health Clinic will come from other Childrens Mercy Wichita medical specialty clinics and from the community.

Common referral concerns will include inattention, learning/academic difficulties, developmental and intellectual differences, depression, anxiety, and disruptive behavior. In addition, psychologists will provide support to youth with chronic health conditions, including promoting adjustment and coping and addressing nonadherence to treatment regimens. Medical subspecialists currently onsite at our existing Wichita clinic include endocrinology, cardiology, and nephrology, and we will be expanding to include allergy, neurology, rheumatology, psychiatry, psychology, and pulmonology. Currently, over 30 specialty clinics reach Wichita via telemedicine. The patient population served in Wichita is diverse, as it draws from a large region in western Kansas.

The successful candidate will be a psychologist with broad generalist training in clinical child and/or pediatric psychology.  Strong therapy and assessment skills with a wide variety of ages and presenting emotional and behavioral concerns are ideal. If desired, the position can include time for teaching in the hospitals pediatric medical and psychology training programs, including our APA-accredited psychology internship and fellowship programs, and protected academic time for program development, service, research, and other scholarly activities. 

Faculty mentoring is available for those interested in clinical scholarship (e.g., program evaluation, quality improvement initiatives).  Teleconferencing allows for participation in Childrens Mercy educational activities and conferences. Colleagues in Kansas City are accessible for professional discussions and consultation.  This position carries an academic appointment at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, with rank commensurate to qualifications and experience.

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in clinical psychology, pediatric psychology, or clinical child psychology
  • Completed an internship at an APA-accredited internship program
  • Internship and/or postdoctoral training with child and adolescent psychology as a substantial area of study and training
  • Relevant experience
  • Eligibility for licensure in Missouri and Kansas
