Job Description

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for an Associate/Full Professor of Psychology or Communication and Chair of the Department of Psychology & Communication to begin Fall 2026.

TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. The university advances knowledge through research and discovery, teaching and learning, community engagement and public service, and with an intentional focus on student success and research excellence. This is a tenured faculty (12-month) position with a 1-1-1 course load. Primary duties will include modeling, supporting, and rewarding faculty excellence in teaching and research; assessing, revising, and innovating curricula; coordinating course scheduling; overseeing the recruitment and hiring of new faculty; credentialing and evaluating faculty; managing the budget; and developing partnerships across the university and community. Duties also include providing support to students, supporting recruitment and retention initiatives, and representing the department in college and university-level strategic planning. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

The Department of Psychology & Communication has 12 full-time Psychology faculty and 9 full-time Communication faculty. It has the following degree programs: BA Psychology, BA Communication, MA Communication, MS Psychology, and MA Counseling Psychology.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a doctorate in psychology, communication, or a closely related discipline. Candidates must have a record of research and publications, teaching experience commensurate to rank, at least 5 years of full-time faculty experience, and experience in faculty management. We strongly encourage candidates with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications as well as experience in writing, securing, and managing external grants (infrastructure, instrument, programmatic, or research). We strongly encourage applicants with administrative and supervisory experience as a program coordinator, program director, or division/department chair.

We offer competitive salaries and a benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, and life insurance. Additional pay is available for summer teaching. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
