Because psychologists need a master's degree or a doctorate, many people with bachelor's degrees in psychology become psychology assistants to determine if they would like to continue on this career path.

A Psychology Assistant supports licensed psychologists by helping collect data, administer psychological tests, and manage documentation related to patient care and research. They may also assist in conducting interviews, scoring assessments, and preparing reports under supervision. Psychology Assistants are not licensed to provide therapy independently but play a crucial role in supporting mental health services.

How does a psychology assistant typically collaborate with licensed psychologists and other mental health professionals?

Psychology Assistants often work closely under the supervision of licensed psychologists, supporting them in conducting assessments, preparing session materials, and managing client records. They may also coordinate with social workers, counselors, and administrative staff to facilitate client care and ensure smooth workflow within the team. Regular meetings and case reviews are common, providing opportunities for feedback and professional development. This collaborative environment helps Psychology Assistants gain practical experience and insight into multidisciplinary mental health care.
