Armed Protective Security Officer (PSO) - Part-TimeDayton, OhioOverview

Meritus Solutions Group is seeking professional and dependable Armed Protective Security Officers (PSOs) to support federal facilities throughout the Dayton, Ohio area, including surrounding locations requiring armed guard services.

This position is ideal for current or former military personnel, former law enforcement officers, and experienced armed security professionals seeking flexible part-time opportunities within a federal security environment.

All Protective Security Officers assigned to this contract provide armed security services at designated federal buildings and facilities.

While this position begins as part-time, opportunities for full-time placement may become available based on operational needs, performance, and contract availability.


Position Responsibilities

Protective Security Officers are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment at federal facilities and may perform duties including:

  • Access control and visitor screening

  • Monitoring entrances, exits, and secured areas

  • Conducting patrols and perimeter inspections

  • Responding to emergencies and security incidents

  • Completing incident and activity reports

  • Operating x-ray and screening equipment

  • Protecting federal personnel, property, and equipment

  • Enforcing site-specific security procedures and federal regulations


Schedule & Availability

Schedules vary based on operational needs and contract requirements.

Applicants must be available to work:

  • Day shifts and/or night shifts

  • Weekdays and weekends

  • Holidays (holiday rotations are required)

Part-time employees are required to maintain a minimum number of scheduled hours each month to remain actively employed.


Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Minimum 21 years of age

  • High school diploma or GED

  • U.S. Citizen with valid Social Security documentation

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently

  • Ability to compose clear and accurate written reports

  • Ability to successfully pass:

    • Background investigation

    • Drug screening

    • Medical evaluation

Required Experience

Applicants must possess ONE of the following:

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience as a licensed armed security officer

  • Prior military service with honorable discharge

  • Prior law enforcement experience


Licensing & Certification RequirementsRequired Prior to Consideration:
  • Valid Ohio OPOTA Armed Security Officer Certification

Applicants without a current and valid OPOTA certification will not be considered.

Additional Certifications (Company Provided if Needed):
  • CPR / First Aid / AED Certification


Training Requirements

All officers must successfully complete all required federal contract training prior to standing post.

Training includes:

  • Classroom instruction

  • Firearms/range qualification

  • X-ray and screening equipment training

  • Site-specific operational procedures

Typical training duration includes:

  • Approximately one week of classroom instruction

  • Approximately one week of range/firearms training

  • Additional screening/x-ray training as required

Training Information
  • All required training is paid

  • Training costs are covered by the company

  • Uniforms, duty gear, firearms, and ammunition are provided by the company


Union Information

All officers assigned to this contract are represented by a union.


CompensationDayton Area Officers
  • $32.36/hour base wage

  • Plus $5.15/hour Health & Welfare benefit contribution
