Summary:
The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for the provision of nursing care for assigned patients within the established standards of evidence-based practice and organizational policy and procedures. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously within the scope of professional standards and the rules and regulations established by the TN and/or VA State Board of Nursing. The RN provides patient care that is appropriate to age and developmental level of assigned patients. The RN appropriately delegates care provision to other members of the nursing care team consistent with role, licensure and scope of practice. Performs nursing assessments and delivers care as an integral part of the care team. Works toward favorable outcomes while delivering safe high-quality healthcare. Accurately reports and documents in the Electronic Medical Record and electronic documentation systems that support the RN's clinical and team member role. He/she has a working knowledge of the nursing process and demonstrates skill in developing and guiding collaborative collegial practice that delivers safe competent care. He/she demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of the diverse cultural backgrounds of our patients and caregivers. The position involves maintaining current clinical knowledge and competency for skills related to the clinical RN role where assigned. Demonstrates the ability to use critical thinking skills in the implementation of all phases of the nursing process. He/she actively participates in patient care quality and performance improvement through data collection and aggregation as assigned. The RN serves as a professional role model as a caregiver, mentor, preceptor/teacher and resource for nursing students, peers and other providers on the health care team. The RN facilitates clinical skill and knowledge acquisition for nursing students assigned to the RN/the RN's patient care area for clinical academic program course requirements and experience. Must be able to wear a respirator mask and other personal protective apparel as indicated in the provision of patient care.
- Precept/Orient new licensed and unlicensed team members and nursing students to clinical nursing skills and licensed and unlicensed patient care provision responsibilities.
- The RN-BSN team member will complete the Ballad Health Preceptor course if not already completed upon assumption of the role.
- Function of "Charge Nurse" responsibilities on the shift for the assigned patient care department which includes:
- Assignment designation for the shift of patients to licensed and unlicensed team members based on competency of the individual and the patient care requirements.
- Oversight of nursing practice of the licensed and unlicensed nursing care team members in the provision of patient care to the assigned unit patients.
- Facilitation of communication with the interdisciplinary healthcare team as needed.
- Reporting of issues to the patient care unit's nursing leadership for the progress of team members and/or patient care issues that occur.
Education/Experience Requirement for employment in the Acute Care (Medical/Surgical)/Progressive Care Unit RN BSN Resource Float Pool:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of experience in medical/surgical nursing.
- Current registered nursing license or have passed the NCLEX exam or have a CGFNS Certificate.
- AHA BLS Certification
- A minimum of at least 2 years of experience in these areas is required for employment in this department float pool.
Following completion of orientation to the eligible facility departments in the assigned Facility Group the RN BSN will be assigned to one department work location within the designated group in increments of 4 weeks at a time.
