Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Covenant House Missouri (CHMO) welcomes youth who are away, trafficked, at-risk, or experiencing homelessness with unconditional love, absolute respect, and a place to call home. Beyond shelter and basic needs, we deliver transformative solutions to help young people ages 16 to 24 build productive, independent,t and sustainable lives.
In alignment with the mission and guiding principles of Covenant House Missouri (CHMO), the Support Services Associate at the Youth Assessment Center is responsible for fostering youth engagement, ensuring youth safety, providing mentoring, and delivering transportation services to youth ages 14-17. This position serves as a key point of contact within the Covenant House Missouri facility, playing a central role in managing the flow of traffic and interactions within the building.
Key responsibilities include maintaining building security by overseeing both in-person and telephone interactions with visitors and clients while adhering to established policies and procedures. The Support Services Associate helps ensure the safety and security of the premises by monitoring surveillance equipment, maintaining visitor logs, and managing entry protocols.
In addition, the role involves assisting non-residential community youth in accessing essential services at Covenant House Missouri. This includes supporting youth in securing basic needs, scheduling appointments with Support Services staff, and providing referrals to appropriate external community resources.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide building security including visitor management and the monitoring of entries and exits.
  • Answer all incoming calls and refer inquiries to appropriate staff taking messages when necessary.
  • Ensure the facility is secure at all times by monitoring surveillance equipment and alerting appropriate staff to actual or perceived threats.
  • Maintain an ongoing presence at the front desk unless time away is coordinated with a supervisor or other team member.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and clients following visitor management and vehicle entry/departure and sign-in/out policies and procedures.
  • Establish rapport and maintain appropriate boundaries with all visitors, clients, and staff according to Covenant House policies and procedures.
  • Securely wand/inspect client belongings according to search protocol. Operate detecting devices to screen individuals and prevent the passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas.
  • Assist with all safety-related drills.

Youth Support:
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with clients, while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Enforce community youth hours for the youth utilizing CHMO services
  • Facilitate the provision of basic needs including, but not limited to, shower, laundry, and food pantry services.
  • Provide information or refer individuals to established and preferred public or private agencies or community services for assistance.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to:
    • Identify the best possible approach to providing services to the youth in the Employment Program
    • Integrate and continuously grow a Trauma Informed culture through service planning and daily interactions, advocating with and on behalf of youth, according to their needs and wishes
  • Model positive behaviors and coping skills for youth demonstrating a strength-based approach in all interactions and utilizing aspects of Trauma Informed Care and Positive Youth Development

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Establish working relationships with fellow team members to build trust and confidence.
  • Participate in all required trainings and staff meetings.
  • Act in accordance with all organizational protocols, policies, and procedures as well as local, state, and federal laws
  • Record and maintain records, required paperwork, and documentation according to agency policy & procedures.
  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Regular internal contact with all CHMO staff, outside contact with vendors and suppliers, and regular contact with outside agencies.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma. Two (2) years of applicable experience.
In addition to the above requirements, the incumbent must:
  • Have a valid driver's license and proof of current insurance.
  • Follow all agency policies.
  • Be able to pass State abuse, neglect, and criminal background checks.
  • Be able to carry out the essential functions of the position with, or without, accommodations.
