Job description

Senior Principal Payment Industry Relations Manager

The Industry Relations team is trusted to fulfill leadership positions in global payments industry associations. In this role, you will help manage the strategy of Capital One's Global Payment Network industry participation, influencing standards and specifications related to payments, digital identity, and emerging technologies (such as agentic commerce) within a collaborative and consensus-driven environment. The team leads industry engagement with EMVCo, FIDO, W3C and other associations for the Global Payment Network.

A successful candidate will possess a natural curiosity about payments technology, a balance of business and technical acumen, and the foresight to determine which industry developments will be most impactful to Capital One. Experience contributing to industry associations, working for a payment network, or working with e-commerce and authentication technologies is highly valued.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Industry Representation: Represent the Capital One Global Payment Network (GPN) at senior levels within industry associations related to payments, digital identity, and emerging technologies like agentic commerce.

  • Standards & Specification Influence: Contribute to the development of global payment specifications, advocating for GPN's position in standards, specifications, and industry initiatives with diplomacy alongside senior industry peers.

  • Internal Thought Leadership: Provide insights and thought leadership internally by surfacing and facilitating discussions on key industry developments to help shape the network's point of view.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate industry developments to internal stakeholders, including senior leadership.

  • Team Advocacy: Act as an internal advocate for the Industry Relations team, proactively identifying opportunities to demonstrate value across the broader organization.

  • Client Facing: This role requires up to 25% domestic and international travel.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification

  • At least 5 years experience working in e-commerce, authentication or digital identity product development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering or Business Administration

  • 6+ years of experience developing standards specifically focused on e-commerce technologies

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $177,700 - $202,800 for Senior Principal Payment Industry Relations (GPN)


Anytown, IL: $161,500 - $184,300 for Senior Principal Payment Industry Relations (GPN)

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
