Physician & Community Relations Manager

As a Management Services Organization (MSO), Spire provides the infrastructure for administrative operations that allows practices to operate at their highest level, so doctors can focus their efforts on what matters most - patient care. Headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, the Spire network spans the Northeast with more than 165 physicians, 1,800 employees, 285 other clinical providers and 40 locations in New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
What you'll do:
The Physician & Community Relations Manager serves as a key representative of Spire Orthopedic Partners and the assigned practice(s), strengthening relationships with referring providers, community organizations, athletic programs, and strategic partners throughout the organization's geographic footprint. This role is responsible for expanding referral networks, coordinating community outreach initiatives, supporting sponsorships, and identifying opportunities to increase brand awareness, strengthen physician relationships, and drive patient growth.
As a member of Spire Orthopedic Partners' Marketing & Communications team, the Physician & Community Relations Manager partners closely with Operations and Practice Leadership, Physician Leadership, and the broader Marketing & Communications team to execute community outreach, referral development, sponsorship, and engagement initiatives that support the organization's strategic growth objectives. This role also works collaboratively with the marketing team to identify and capture stories, photos, and video content that showcase physicians, patients, community partnerships, and events while strengthening the organization's presence throughout the communities it serves.
Key metrics and drivers of potential bonus opportunities include, but not limited to:
  • Referral volume growth (Which referral sources are growing or declining?)
  • Retention of referring providers (Where is referral leaking occurring?)
  • New referral sources (What specific actions drive new referral sources?)
  • Recovery of lost referral sources
  • Referral conversion rate (How much revenue is generated from each referral relationship?)
  • Referral driving activities (Office visits, lunch and learns, community events)

Responsibilities:
Physician Relationships & Referral Development
  • Develop, manage, and strengthen relationships with referring physicians, primary care providers, urgent care centers, and other referral sources throughout an assigned geographic territory.
  • Conduct regular physician office visits, lunch-and-learn presentations, and educational outreach activities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for referring provider offices, communicating provider availability, new services, scheduling updates, and practice resources.
  • Distribute referral guides, physician directories, marketing collateral, and educational materials.
  • Monitor referral trends and identify opportunities to strengthen existing referral relationships and establish new referral sources.
  • Track referral activity and provide regular reporting on outreach efforts and referral growth.

Community Outreach, Sponsorships & Events
  • Manage organizational sponsorships, community partnerships, and outreach initiatives that increase awareness of [Insert Practice Name].
  • Coordinate participation in health fairs, community events, races, educational seminars, employer wellness events, and other outreach opportunities.
  • Identify new sponsorship, partnership, and community engagement opportunities that align with organizational growth objectives.
  • Coordinate event logistics, branded materials, giveaways, signage, and on-site representation.
  • Represent the practice professionally at community events and networking opportunities.

Marketing & Content Support
  • Partner with the Marketing & Communications team to identify and capture compelling stories that showcase physicians, patients, community partnerships, and organizational initiatives.
  • Capture photos, short-form video, interviews, and other digital content during practice visits, community events, sponsorship activations, and athletic partnerships for use across social media, website, digital marketing, and other communications.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Content Strategy and Social Media Manager to identify upcoming opportunities for content creation and promotional campaigns.
  • Assist in gathering physician testimonials, patient success stories, event highlights, and behind-the-scenes content that supports marketing initiatives.

Collaboration & Reporting
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing & Communications, Operations, Practice Leadership, and Physician Leadership to support strategic growth initiatives.
  • Track and report community engagement activities, referral development efforts, sponsorship performance, and partnership outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, referral meetings, community contacts, and follow-up actions.
  • Represent the practice with professionalism, integrity, and exceptional customer service in all interactions.

Who you are:
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Healthcare Administration, Public Relations, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Experience
  • 5-8 years of experience in physician relations, healthcare marketing, provider outreach, business development, community engagement, or a related healthcare relationship management role.
  • Experience developing relationships with physicians, healthcare providers, or community organizations preferred.
  • Healthcare sales preferred, with proven track record in physician relationship building and management.
  • Experience coordinating events, sponsorships, or community engagement initiatives.
  • Experience within healthcare, orthopedic, or multi-site physician practice environments is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Comfortable presenting to physicians, healthcare professionals, and community organizations.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Power BI, Marketware or additional relationship management tools preferred.
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout the assigned service area and attend evening and weekend events.
