Job description

The Gate Installation Technician is an essential role for Guardian Access Solutions, a security systems integrator with deep expertise in gate automation, access control systems, and CCTV. In this important position, Installation Technicians will assist the Gate Division with project installations, servicing, maintenance, and repair of automated gate systems including swing and slide gates, personal entry gates, barrier arms, and custom fabrications. We are looking for a dedicated, experienced individual with extensive knowledge of the security industry who is well versed in mechanical and low-voltage systems and able to troubleshoot access control equipment across various manufacturers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Conducting field service visits to troubleshoot and resolve issues with existing access control systems, including phone entry systems, gate operators, card readers, door strikes, RFID antennas, and cameras
  • Performing scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance on gate systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with gate components, including motors, sensors, and control systems
  • Implementing effective solutions to diagnosed issues and escalating unresolved issues to project manager for direction
  • Resolving gate system issues by conducting repairs and replacements of parts, ensuring the smooth and reliable operation of the gate systems
  • Installing new equipment including cutting loops, pulling wire through conduit, pouring concrete, installing electric operators, and welding when necessary
  • Ensuring all equipment is working safely and correctly after installation, maintenance, or repair
  • Safely and efficiently operating construction equipment to aid in digging post holes and trenches, mixing and pouring concrete, running wire, and supply transportation
  • Pre-wiring, programming, upgrading, and terminating end devices as needed across gate and related access control systems
  • Providing excellent customer service by responding promptly to service requests, answering client questions, providing technical support on the use of their access control systems, and resolving client concerns with clear and professional communication
  • Maintaining detailed records of all installations, repairs, and service calls, including time on job, inventory of parts used, and any additional follow up required in the company's ERP system
  • Accurately completes all paperwork, including timesheets, in a timely manner
  • Adhering to all safety protocols and regulations while productively contributing to the company's goals of maintaining a safe, healthy, and productive work environment
  • Regular and punctual attendance at work and provides appropriate flexibility for after-hours, overtime, and on-call scheduling
  • Ability to work outdoors in various elements at company and client locations including unfinished construction worksites
  • Other job related duties as assigned to include installation and maintenance of other security related systems such as access control, CCTV, cameras, and intrusion equipment

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 1+ year of construction experience
  • Experience in access control, gate automation systems, electronic security preferred
  • Low voltage experience and well versed knowledge of electrical current and relays
  • Ability to perform independently as well as collaboratively within a team, and demonstrating a willingness to undergo on-the-job training as necessary
  • Willingness to travel overnight and on weekends for projects
  • Ability to use power and hand tools, read a tape measurer, and understand verbal and written instructions
  • Computer, smartphone, and/or tablet literate
  • Ability to perform physical work outdoors year-round in a variety of weather elements for 8+ hours a day, 40+ hours a week
  • As a condition of employment, employer will conduct a background check and drug screen
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English

Physical Requirements

Work Environment

Work is performed in a fast-paced warehouse setting and in the field with frequent interruptions. The employee is required to stand; walk; dig; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds. Duties may require standing and walking for long periods of time. The employee is expected to work alongside the crew and demonstrate the install and/or service process when necessary. The employee is required to perform the expected duties at offsite locations. Frequent need to drive a vehicle to other work locations is expected.
