First Connect Health has an immediate 13-week travel contract opening for an experienced Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) in Eureka, California (Northern California Coast). Operating within Providence Saint Joseph Hospital, this position features a structured 3x12 overnight schedule (18:00 PM - 06:30 AM / 6:00 PM - 6:30 AM).   • Schedule: Night shifts, 3x12-Hours (18:00 PM - 06:30 AM / 6:00 PM - 6:30 AM). Block scheduling is not offered.
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 regular/OT hours guaranteed weekly.
  • Weekend Requirements: Rotational weekend coverage as scheduled.
  • On-Call Requirements: NO ON-CALL REQUIRED! Enjoy your scheduled days off free from standby duty.
  • Clinical Scope & Ratios: Strict 1:4 staffing ratio in PCU (1:5 if floating to Med/Surg). Patient population includes intermediate care, cardiac telemetry, post-cardiac catheterization/angiograms, pre/post-cardiac surgery, and non-invasive respiratory management.
  • Core Competencies: Continuous cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, Heparin protocols, maintenance of non-titrated cardiac drips, procedural sedation monitoring, blood transfusions, and central/PICC line care.
  • EMR System: Epic EMR is a strict hard-stop requirement.

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical PCU, Stepdown, IMC, or ICU experience in an acute care hospital setting is strictly required. Hard stop: Must have active, clinical bedside experience in the discipline within the last 6 months. First-time travelers accepted!
  • Licensure: Active California RN License in hand (Compact license must be verified in hand at submission).
  • Certifications Required: * American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Rehire Policy: Former permanent staff from any non-Swedish Providence facility are eligible to return after a 3-month separation.
