Job Overview

D&E Machine Company is seeking a skilled and dependable ProtoTRAK Mill Operator to join our team at our onsite facility in Lebanon, OH.

Position Summary

As a ProtoTRAK Mill Operator, you will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating ProtoTRAK milling machines to manufacture precision components for a variety of industries. This position is ideal for a machinist who enjoys working with custom parts, interpreting blueprints, and producing high-quality work with minimal supervision.

You will work closely with our production team to ensure parts are manufactured accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. The successful candidate will have a strong attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and a desire to contribute to a growing machine shop environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, program, and operate ProtoTRAK milling machines to produce precision machined components

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements

  • Select and install tooling, fixtures, and work holding appropriate for each job

  • Determine proper cutting speeds, feeds, and machining strategies for various materials

  • Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring instruments

  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections to verify conformance to specifications

  • Make machine and program adjustments as required to maintain quality and productivity

  • Maintain accurate job documentation and production records

  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep work areas clean and organized

  • Follow all company safety procedures and support continuous improvement efforts

  • Assist with other machining and production activities as needed

Required Qualifications
  • Experience setting up and operating ProtoTRAK mills or similar conversational CNC milling equipment

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturing specifications

  • Proficiency using precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges

  • Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, work holding, and material properties

  • Ability to independently set up jobs and produce parts to specification

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials up to 50 pounds as needed

  • Reliable attendance and a positive, team-oriented attitude

  • Willingness to work onsite full-time in Lebanon, OH

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of milling experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment

  • Experience with ProtoTRAK conversational programming and setup

  • Knowledge of GD&T and blueprint interpretation

  • Experience machining stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, brass, UHMW, Delrin, and other plastics

  • Ability to complete setups and produce first articles with minimal supervision

  • Experience with manual mills, CNC equipment, saws, surface grinders, or other machine shop equipment

  • Forklift certification or material handling experience
