What are some common challenges a Protection Manager faces when coordinating with multiple stakeholders during emergency situations?

Protection Managers often encounter challenges such as aligning priorities between humanitarian agencies, local authorities, and community members, especially in high-pressure emergency settings. Effective communication and negotiation skills are essential to foster collaboration and avoid misunderstandings, as Protection Managers frequently mediate between diverse groups with varying perspectives and resources.

Compensation varies based on industry, location, and the scope of responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Protection Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Protection Manager, you need expertise in risk assessment, security protocols, and crisis management, often supported by a degree in security studies or a related field. Familiarity with incident reporting systems, physical security technologies, and certifications like CPP (Certified Protection Professional) are typically required. Strong leadership, decision-making under pressure, and excellent communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies ensure effective protection of people and assets, swift response to threats, and coordination with teams and stakeholders.

Job description

About us:

Dyson is a global technology enterprise. We're growing fast and our ambition is huge - more categories, more locations and more people. Dyson launched in the US in 2002, and since then operations have grown exponentially. Our US headquarters is based in Chicago's Fulton Market neighborhood with an additional office located in New York City. We also have employees working in field sales, our service centers, and in our growing number of Dyson Demo Store's across the country.

We're committed to our campus culture and want to have people collaborating, developing, and learning from each other. By having everyone on campus together, we have been able to nurture a fantastic social and dynamic environment.

About the role:

The Profit Protection function, established in 2017, is a critical part of Dyson's Global Security team, working alongside Cyber, Technical, Corporate Security, and Crisis Management to protect what matters at Dyson. Reporting to the Regional Profit Protection Manager, you'll play a lead role in shaping and executing the retail risk strategy for our omni-channel environments.

Our remit spans omni-channel retail locations, manufacturing, supply chain, and the reseller market. The team is trusted to drive loss prevention and risk mitigation on everything from new product launches and marketing assets to offline retail and logistics. Profit Protection is not just about reacting-it's about identifying threats, designing forward-thinking security solutions, and influencing business strategy as part of Dyson's Retail Centre of Excellence.

Success here means using data, innovative approaches, and cross-functional partnerships to reduce loss and safeguard our brand, people, and customers across all markets. If you want to be at the forefront of profit protection, where strategy meets hands-on impact, Dyson offers the platform to make your expertise count.

Key responsibilities:

Strategic Loss Prevention & Risk Leadership

  • Lead complex, multi-million-dollar investigations: Drive end-to-end resolution on large-scale financial losses, cargo theft, and organized retail crime. Every incident is treated not just as a case but as a critical business opportunity for improvement.

  • Assess and advance controls: Evaluate our security posture across all retail, supply chain, and omni-channel platforms, finding gaps and proactively designing improvements. Your recommendations will directly impact Dyson's bottom line.

Data-Driven Decision Making

  • Analyze and synthesize data: Collect internal and external intelligence to spot patterns, uncover root causes, and identify emerging threats. Leverage dashboards and actionable trackers that inform major business decisions.

  • Translate insights into actions: Move beyond reporting, leverage learnings from investigations and audits to drive strategic, measurable process improvements at scale.

Cross-Functional & External Partnerships

  • Collaborate with senior leadership: Work alongside the Regional Profit Protection Manager and functional heads to shape and execute the omni-channel risk strategy.

  • Law enforcement and partner engagement: Build relationships with public and private partners, including police, auditors, and prosecutors-to secure Dyson's assets and reputation.

  • Train and elevate teams: Deliver robust profit protection training to staff and ensure everyone is aligned with our preventative, strategic vision.

Operational Excellence & Compliance

  • Lead audits and inventory accuracy checks: Ensure sites operate within compliance to reduce loss, improve inventory efficiency, and reinforce our standards.

  • Set the benchmark: Your audit findings and process improvements will raise expectations for the entire business, driving high performance and accountability across regions

About you:
  • Proven track record leading complex, multi-jurisdictional investigations into high-value financial loss, cargo theft, and organized retail crime, delivering measurable recovery or prevention.

  • Certified in investigative interviewing techniques (Wicklander or equivalent) with hands-on experience managing both internal and external investigations from start to finish.

  • Naturally curious and proactive, adept at identifying emerging risks and root causes, designing creative solutions, and driving business-wide improvements in loss prevention.

  • Skilled at building partnerships with both public and private sector stakeholders, including law enforcement, legal teams, supply chain, and retail operations, to resolve cases and reduce ongoing risk.

  • Advanced proficiency in evidence gathering, case management, and maintaining robust documentation using case management software and Excel.

  • Experience conducting inventory management, audits, and compliance reviews across multi-unit retail, warehousing, or supply chain environments.

  • Analytical and data-driven, with a keen eye for patterns and trends, leveraging technology and insight to guide strategic action.

  • Obsessive about detail, ethical, and highly organized, able to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and deliver results under pressure.

  • Strong communicator, able to influence at all levels and train others in profit protection best practice.

  • Confident working in multicultural, diverse environments and willing to travel extensively across the region including Canada, Mexico and LATAM.

  • Fluent in English (required); fluency in other regional languages (such as Spanish or French) preferred.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and quick to adapt to new technologies.

At Dyson, how we reward you is linked to our high-performance culture. But it's about more than salary and bonus. Through a package of financial, lifestyle and health benefits, we support whatever stage of life you're in and the moments that matter.
Financial benefits:

  • 401K with up to a 4% match

  • Company paid Life Insurance and AD&D

  • Flexible Savings Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA)

Lifestyle benefits:

  • Competitive Paid Time Off Benefits including Separate Holiday, Sick, and Vacation Time

  • Pre-tax Commuter Benefits (applicable areas only)

  • Generous Child Care Leave Program

  • Wellness Program

  • Employee Assistance Program

  • Dyson Product Discounts

Health benefits:

  • Multi-Level Healthcare Coverage Options

  • Vision & Dental Coverage

  • Company paid Short-Term and Long-Term Disability
