About the opportunity:

The Electrical Controls Engineer is responsible for electrical, controls, and automation projects and tasks to support manufacturing processes with new equipment or upgrades of existing equipment. The Electrical Controls Engineer will design, estimate, maintain budgets, manage installations, program, and commission systems in addition to providing technical support for manufacturing equipment. The Electrical Controls Engineer's tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Making safety a top priority by following and promoting safe work practices, participating in preventative safety activities, and focusing on designs, improvements, and other opportunities to improve safety.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure their needs are met.
  • Develop and review specifications and drawings for new systems and modifications to existing systems.
  • Design electrical and control solutions with an understanding of industrial power and control techniques in addition to developing electrical schematics. 
  • Program and configure electrical, control, and automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, loop controllers, and VFDs.
  • Manage projects to ensure they meet time and budget targets, providing status updates, spending forecasts, and timelines.
  • Work with suppliers and the purchasing department to obtain competitive quotes for components, systems, and installation work.
  • Lead installation and modification efforts, manage cost, quality, and delivery using internal and external resources.
  • Create technical support documentation and provide technical support to the maintenance and production teams.
  • Provide engineering expertise for lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
About you:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience of 2 or more years (5+ is preferred) in the field of Electrical and Controls Engineering performing automation and controls design, programming, and managing projects from inception to commissioning in an industrial environment.
  • Experience with industrial power, circuit sizing and protection, motor control, sensors, and control components.
  • Experience with PLC and HMI programming.
  • Knowledge of SQL and scripting is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and circuit diagrams.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, OSHA and MSHA standards and requirements.
  • Proficient with industrial communications.
  • Proficient computer and network skills.
  • Excellent problem solving, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.
  • Proven communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of internal and external contractors.
