(MEPPI) is seeking a visionary Principal Protection & Controls Engineer to take FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) and HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technologies to new heights. Your Role

As a Principal Protection & Controls Engineer, you will:

  • Lead Advanced System Design: Spearhead studies in harmonic filter design, loss calculations, audible noise analysis, and control performance for FACTS and HVDC systems.
  • Develop Innovative Equipment Solutions: Create advanced designs and rating calculations for power electronic converters, cooling systems, and large power transformers.
  • Guide Testing & Commissioning: Oversee factory and field acceptance tests, ensuring systems meet rigorous performance standards.
  • Collaborate Globally: Partner with Mitsubishi Electrics global engineering teams to advance product development and share insights on emerging industry trends.
  • Support Sales Initiatives: Assist in bids, proposals, and customer presentations, delivering technical expertise that drives project success.
  • Shape Industry Standards: Represent MEPPI in trade organizations, influence technical committee tasks, and maintain a network of industry contacts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and review design studies for FACTS and HVDC systems, ensuring innovative solutions align with industry standards.
  • Develop one-line diagrams and equipment specifications for advanced power electronic systems.
  • Provide technical consultation on protection and control systems, as well as operational methods for FACTS and HVDC technologies.
  • Coordinate system designs from initial concept through equipment factory tests and real-time digital simulator testing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve installation and testing issues, guiding field engineers and service personnel.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures for power electronics equipment and system designs.

What You Bring

  • Educational Background: Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Power Electronics Engineering with 10+ years of FACTS or HVDC system engineering experience, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Technical Mastery: Advanced knowledge of power electronics, substation equipment, harmonic filtering, and protection/control systems.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Expertise in analyzing technical challenges and conceptualizing novel solutions to advance industry practices.
  • Industry Engagement: Proven ability to influence trade organization standards and collaborate with global engineering teams.
  • Technical Tools: Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, power system simulation software, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Communication Excellence: Strong interpersonal and technical writing skills to effectively engage with customers, suppliers, and industry professionals.
