About:
We are seeking a highly qualified Controls Engineer for our Hackettstown, NJ field office. The Controls Engineer must be well versed in designing, programming, and implementing control systems for power distribution and switchgear applications. Success in this role involves delivering high-quality, reliable control solutions while ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements. This position is critical in enhancing system efficiency, reliability, and safety. The Controls Engineer collaborates closely with project teams, clients, and field technicians to ensure seamless execution.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Design switchgear control systems for low and medium voltage (i.e. 480V to 38kV) applications.
Perform specification reviews and compliance project take offs.
Develop electrical drawings, submittals, and sequence of operation documentation.
Program and configure PLCs (Siemens & Fanuc) for automated control systems.
Develop SCADA and HMI systems using Siemens WinCC and Wonderware InTouch.
Configure, program, and test protection relays, power meters, and circuit breakers.
Perform diagnostic and maintenance on PLCs, multifunction relays, HMIs, and protection systems.
Develop and adhere to project schedules, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
Train customers and internal personnel on control system operations.
Support our various locations and assist in day-to-day operations.
Maintain compliance with OSHA and NFPA 70E safety standards.
Follow all customer site safety rules and regulations.
Maintain professionalism and respectful interaction with co-workers and customers.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent technical experience.
Minimum 10 years of experience in switchgear design, control system engineering, and power distribution.
Hands-on experience with PLC programming, SCADA systems, and relay protection.
Previous experience with construction job site safety procedures.
Required Skills:
Proficiency in designing and implementing switchgear control systems.
Expertise in PLC programming (Siemens & Fanuc) and SCADA/HMI development.
Experienced in network communication protocols.
Strong understanding of protection relays, electrical schematics, and industrial networking.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and leadership qualities.
Ability to pass background checks and comply with drug-free workplace policies.
Familiarity with NetSuite ERP system is a plus.
Travel Requirements:
Approximately 10% of travel is required.
Travel to various customer sites and manufacturer locations.
Weekend and off-hours work required when needed.
Provide on-call services when needed.
Out-of-area extended travel arrangements provided by us.
Expenses related to travel and meals while traveling covered at cost.
