Job Description

ChenMoore is seeking a Senior Engineer, Protection & Controls to support the design and delivery of power delivery projects. This role will contribute to substation and related electrical infrastructure projects, with responsibilities spanning protection and control design, relay applications, engineering studies, technical coordination, and project execution.

The ideal candidate is a licensed engineer with strong protection and controls experience, sound technical judgment, and the ability to work across multiple projects while coordinating with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support protection and control engineering for power delivery projects.
  • Develop engineering deliverables related to:
    • Protection and control system design
    • Relay settings and coordination
    • Physical substation design support
    • AC/DC load studies
    • Grounding and lightning protection studies
  • Prepare project scope documents, conceptual designs, execution plans, and engineering cost estimates.
  • Support project delivery through schedule development, budget coordination, and technical execution.
  • Coordinate with clients, utilities, telecom providers, prime consultants, municipalities, and internal discipline leads.
  • Prepare equipment specifications for procurement, testing, and project implementation.
  • Support factory acceptance testing and related design review activities as needed.
  • Assist with proposal development and technical input for pursuits.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers and support team development.
  • Maintain quality, accuracy, and consistency across engineering deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other related fields.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in protection and controls engineering, or related power delivery work.
  • Strong understanding of NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
  • Experience supporting engineering studies and technical design calculations.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple assignments and work effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, initiative, and sense of project ownership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with relay settings and protection studies.
  • Experience with CDEGS.
  • Experience with ASPEN.
  • Experience supporting substation or utility infrastructure projects.
  • Prior experience mentoring junior staff or leading portions of project execution.
