Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Substation Engineering Manager to lead and expand our engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to shape a rapidly growing Power Delivery group while supporting major utilities and transmission & distribution clients across the country. As the Substation Engineering Manager, you will oversee a team of engineers and designers responsible for delivering high voltage substation projects ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. You'll play a key role in team development, technical leadership, and project execution, supporting both engineering only and EPC project models.

This position is based out of Westlake, TX.
Responsibilities
• Build, mentor, and manage a local team of substation engineers and designers.
• Provide technical leadership across substation physical (primary) and protection & control (secondary) design.
• Oversee development of engineering deliverables, including:
• One line and three line diagrams
• General arrangements and equipment layouts
• Grounding, lightning protection, and conduit/cable routing plans
• Protection & control schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
• Bills of material, specifications, and construction packages
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering efforts with civil, structural, transmission, and SCADA/communications teams.
• Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
• Ensure engineering work meets quality standards, technical requirements, and client expectations.
• Collaborate with project managers and construction teams to support EPC execution, constructability reviews, and field issue resolution.
• Contribute to business growth by improving processes, developing standards, and supporting proposals and estimating.
Qualifications
• 10+ years of experience performing engineering related duties and/or management for substation projects.
• P.E. license required
• Knowledge of engineering and construction standards and processes including scheduling, contracts, coordinating and managing all disciplines
• Ability to work independently with limited direction and oversight
• Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) or Graduate degree in Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited university
• Strong attention to detail; strong communication, interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Competitive - demonstrating the desire to win the project and grow the team through leadership and teamwork.
• Must be able to communicate through emails and utilize electronic meeting requests.
• Must be able to represent Kiewit manner to owners, contractors, vendors and any other contacts outside the Kiewit organization.
• Ability to work in a growing, adaptive and multi-discipline team environment
• Legally able to work within the United States for any length of time. Sponsorship will be considered in special circumstances.
