Job description

The Fire Sprinkler Design Manager leads the design department responsible for producing code-compliant fire sprinkler system designs for commercial, industrial, residential, and institutional projects. This role manages design personnel, oversees project schedules, ensures compliance with applicable codes and standards, collaborates with project managers and field teams, and maintains high-quality design deliverables while supporting business growth and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

· Manage and mentor a team of fire sprinkler designers and CAD/BIM technicians.

· Oversee multiple design projects from concept through fabrication and installation.

· Review and approve fire sprinkler layouts, hydraulic calculations, stock lists, and fabrication drawings.

· Ensure designs comply with NFPA standards, local building codes, insurance requirements, and customer specifications.

· Coordinate with architects, engineers, general contractors, AHJs, and clients throughout project development.

· Establish project priorities and assign workloads to meet deadlines.

· Monitor project budgets, labor hours, and design productivity.

· Support project managers with technical expertise during bidding, construction, and closeout.

· Resolve design conflicts through coordination with other trades using BIM and clash detection software.

· Implement quality assurance and quality control procedures for all design deliverables.

· Stay current on changes to fire protection codes, technology, and industry best practices.

· Assist in recruiting, training, and performance evaluations of design staff.

· Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

· Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field preferred.

· 7–10+ years of fire sprinkler design experience.

· 3–5+ years of supervisory or management experience.

· NICET Certification in Water-Based Systems Layout (Level III or IV preferred).

· Strong working knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 13R, NFPA 13D, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, NFPA 24, and applicable local codes.

· Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, HydraCAD, AutoSPRINK, or similar fire sprinkler design software.

· Experience performing hydraulic calculations and coordinating BIM models.

· Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

· Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

· Texas RME-G License.

· Experience with fabrication management and material optimization.

· Familiarity with Lean construction practices and BIM coordination.

· Knowledge of project scheduling software and ERP systems.
