General Motors is seeking a Controls Development Engineer - Rapid Prototype to support the development of advanced vehicle controls solutions. In this role, you will lead technical solution development across current, new, and major programs by translating requirements into functional designs, developing and integrating controls content, and supporting analysis, testing, and issue resolution. This role is aligned to a Milford-based Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) organization focused on rapid prototyping and vehicle controls development.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and generate technical solutions, including requirements definition, functional decomposition, analysis, development, and testing for current, new, and major vehicle programs

  • Lead development of software system team design content in Embedded C and drive software anomaly investigation and correction

  • Perform complex design analysis to support robust controls development and integration

  • Specify, decompose, and balance system requirements across functions and interfaces

  • Provide, communicate, and support common best practices across the software and controls engineering community

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for at least one platform, subsystem, or application component

  • Develop, integrate, and validate rapid prototype controls solutions to support early feature development, proof-of-concept work, and vehicle-level learning

  • Collaborate with systems, software, calibration, validation, and vehicle integration teams to deliver high-quality controls content

  • Support issue identification, root cause analysis, and corrective action for prototype and production-intent controls behavior

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of controls methods, tools, and development processes

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field

  • Experience in embedded controls, software, or algorithm development. Embedded C

  • Experience in vehicle controls, chassis controls, propulsion controls, or other dynamic embedded control systems

  • Experience with controls development tools and methods such as Matlab/Simulink, model-based development, and structured software design practices

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to solve unusual and difficult technical problems

  • Experience translating system requirements into control logic, software design content, and testable deliverables

  • Experience supporting design, integration, testing, and issue resolution in a fast-paced engineering environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across engineering teams

  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and lead technical workstreams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline

  • Experience with rapid controller prototyping tools such as ETAS, dSPACE, or similar platforms

  • Experience with MIL, SIL, and HIL development and validation environments

  • Experience with vehicle integration, prototype development, and cross-functional issue resolution

  • Experience serving as a technical lead or subject matter expert within a controls or software domain

  • Familiarity with agile development methods and automotive product development processes
