Job Purpose
The Propulsion Controls Engineer will be responsible for planning, developing, testing, and issuing the propulsion controls software for Canoo vehicles.
Responsibilities (80s of the Position)
  • Create test plan for on vehicle testing, calibration, and development of propulsion control algorithms for electric vehicle.
  • Support software review and development.
  • Evaluation for release of calibration set for propulsion software functions.
  • Ownership of vehicle attributes for propulsion functions including target setting, evaluation and analysis.
  • Support requirements development at vehicle, system, and software levels to refine vehicle behaviors and attributes.
  • Provide feedback and assistance to other systems requiring propulsion software systems support including chassis controls development, battery management system development, ADAS controls development.
  • Interface with cross-functional teams to support propulsion performance testing, software testing and validation.

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Experience using MATLAB / Simulink / Stateflow for control algorithm development.
  • Experience with on-vehicle testing of propulsion systems
  • Experience with software documentation / calibration guides for propulsion software.
  • Electric vehicle systems knowledge: High voltage Battery, Traction Inverter, Electric Motor
  • Experience with in-vehicle data acquisition equipment: Vector, Intrepid, PCAN, or similar
  • Experience with software analysis tools: Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, vsignalizer, CANape
  • Experience with log file analysis and root case identification of software issues in vehicle
  • Requirement management systems experience: Jama, Doors or Polarion

Preferred Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in Control systems.
  • Basic knowledge of communication interfaces like CAN, SPI, I2C
  • Good trouble shooting skills and understanding at the system level (electrical propulsion system including gearing, powertrain controls and battery system).
  • Experience with IDE tools like CCS or Eclipse, software management systems like GitHub, software versioning tools like Git, and familiarity with software validation and release process.
  • Functional safety related qualifications (ISO26262) are a plus.

Travel Requirements
  • Business travel up to 20% annually.
