Proposal writers may work for non-profit organizations or private companies, or they may be freelancers who work for many different businesses. About us

One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we’re on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We’re looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.

What you'll do

The Director of Strategic Capture & Proposals (Win Center) is a high-impact leadership role within Viasat Government (VGOV) responsible for driving the growth and future of the business by establishing and leading our strategic capture and proposal excellence hub!  In this capacity, you will run the "Win Center," working cross-functionally to shepherd Business Development (BD) teams through the formal capture process, coach them through gates, and lead proposal teams to secure critical new business.

Serving as a senior expert and inspiring leader, you will bridge the gap between emerging government requirements and internal organizational capabilities.   This role requires a blend of strategic vision, mentorship, and deep expertise in navigating the compliance and operational landscape of high-stakes government contracting.

The day-to-day
  • Win Center Leadership: Establish, run, and lead the VGOV "Win Center," driving institutional capture excellence, standardization, and a winning culture across the defense portfolio.
  • BD Shepherding & Gate Reviews: Guide and shepherd BD teams systematically along the end-to-end capture process, facilitating disciplined framework check-ins, qualifying questions, and formal go/no-go scoring achievements.
  • Capture Coaching & Mentorship: Act as a hands-on coach and mentor to BD personnel, sharpening win strategies, developing detailed customer profiles, and maturing organizational capture planning capabilities.
  • Integrated Proposal Leadership: Lead and guide the end-to-end proposal process, directing the creation, review, and execution of high-quality, compliant deliverables for critical pursuits.
  • Prepare BD and technical teams to write winning proposals. Help define the specific problems to be solved. Connect engineering architectures with proposal writers.
  • B&P Budget Management: Build, manage, and track Bid and Proposal (B&P) budgets and expenses across assigned capture efforts to guarantee efficient prioritization.
  • Collaborate on financial costing, pricing, and gap analysis for tender and submission efforts. Ensure program objectives are aggressively positioned and balanced.
  • Expert Compliance Guidance: Serve as the primary expert in guiding teams through complex compliance considerations, solicitation analysis, and custom solution mapping to directly address the "voice of the customer."

Professional Profile

  • Independent Leadership: You are expected to stand up and run a centralized hub independently, prioritize high-relevance projects, and exercise expert judgment in determining objectives for critical assignments.
  • You are recognized as an experienced expert in government procurement. You have outstanding mentoring skills to guide and improve others in complex operational and proposal settings.
  • Strategic Influence: You contribute as an inspiring leader, helping to map internal architectures to specific customer requests and ensuring strategic roadmaps align with critical defense requirements.

What you'll need
  • Experience: 15+ years of demonstrated success leading complex government capture and bid development initiatives, with a proven track record of winning high-value federal awards.
  • Proposal Mastery: Strong proposal development, architecture, and writing skills, with the ability to transform highly technical concepts into compelling, compliant narratives.
  • Leadership & Influence: Proven ability to build consensus among collaborators, manage cross-functional teams under pressure, and maintain extreme integrity and accuracy.
  • Tools & Compliance: Strong knowledge of proposal documentation tools, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio) and Adobe Acrobat.
