Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is part of a century old tradition to contribute towards building strong communities by helping TSA to give hope to others.
The Christmas Kettle Host is a temporary seasonal position responsible for engaging donors, safeguarding donations, representing The Salvation Army in a professional manner, and supporting the successful operation of assigned kettle locations

Accountabilities:

Incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below:

Remain at the Kettle for the full shift (until relieved), ensuring security of donations received.
Respond to questions/queries from potential donors regarding SA ministries and programs.
Present a positive image (well-groomed/dressed) and represent TSA well while on duty.
Work with minimal supervision.
Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.
Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a minimum 15-hour a week temporary position (3-4 hour shifts) to start work on November 13, 2026
  • Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, Monday through Saturday.
  • Available to work in multiple locations in the North Shore
  • Work environment is typically in malls/stores
  • Standing for long periods will be required and exposure to cold weather
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.

Education

  • Some high school coursework, Completion of high school is an asset.
  • Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Up to one year of related experience or working in customer service
  • Money handling experience is an asset
  • Related experience is an asset
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Enthusiastic Team Player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be willing to take direction
  • Must be able to lift and move Kettle equipment up to 25 lbs.
  • Strong customer service skills; enjoy liaising and working with people of all ages and abilities
  • Willingness to be flexible and work well under pressure with daily timelines and changing priorities
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor, volunteer, and organizational information.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $18.25 to $21.74 with a maximum of $25.23.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
