Job description

Energy Insurance Mutual (EIM) is a member-owned mutual insurance company serving the utility and energy services industry. For four decades, EIM has provided specialized insurance solutions, financial strength, and responsive service to its Members through a relationship-driven, long-term approach to risk management.


EIM is seeking a Senior Property Underwriter / Property Product Line Manager to underwrite complex property insurance accounts and serve as a technical leader for EIMโ€™s property underwriting portfolio. This is a highly visible opportunity for an experienced property underwriting professional who wants to move beyond a traditional commercial insurance environment and into a financially strong, member-owned mutual built on long-term relationships, thoughtful risk solutions, and technical excellence.


Based in Tampa, Florida, this role offers the opportunity to manage an established and growing portfolio of Member accounts, work directly with Members, brokers, reinsurers, and executive leadership, and help shape EIMโ€™s property underwriting strategy, portfolio performance, and product direction.


What you will do

  • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of complex property insurance accounts by evaluating risk, determining appropriate pricing, and making underwriting decisions within established authority.
  • Provide technical leadership for EIMโ€™s property underwriting portfolio, including risk assessment, pricing adequacy, catastrophe exposure management, policy wording review, and portfolio profitability.
  • Analyze property exposures, coverage requirements, underwriting information, catastrophe exposures, and market conditions to develop appropriate insurance solutions for EIM Members.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on property market conditions, including pricing trends, capacity, catastrophe exposures, and emerging risks.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, loss trends, catastrophe aggregation, underwriting profitability, and market conditions while recommending corrective actions and underwriting strategies, as needed.
  • Partner with the Director โ€“ Product & Underwriting Strategy and the Vice President & Chief Underwriting Officer to support underwriting strategy, product development initiatives, departmental projects, and underwriting approvals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Members, brokers, reinsurers, and business partners through responsive communication and exceptional customer service.
  • Prepare underwriting analyses, Board materials, management reports, and supporting documentation for executive leadership and strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with reinsurers during property modeling, renewals, and audit activities by preparing underwriting information and responding to technical inquiries.
  • Provide guidance and technical mentorship to Underwriters, Underwriting Assistants, and newer team members, as needed.


What we are looking for

  • 8+ years of commercial property underwriting experience, including experience handling large and complex accounts with layered and shared placements.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Builders Risk, All Risk Property, Business Interruption, Natural Catastrophe, engineering exposures, property policy forms, endorsements, manuscript wording, and coverage interpretation.
  • Energy underwriting experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, strategic planning, problem-solving, communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to interact directly with senior risk management and executive personnel and effectively communicate technical underwriting concepts.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound underwriting judgment and operate within delegated underwriting authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain broker and Member relationships.
  • CPCU, ARM, RPLU, or other insurance-related professional designations preferred.

Work environment

This is a full-time, exempt role with a hybrid work environment and a three-day in-office presence in Tampa, Florida. Travel is expected approximately 20% of the time for Member visits, broker meetings, conferences, business development activities, and industry events.
