Job description

The Property Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating and managing commercial property insurance risks, developing strong broker relationships, and supporting profitable business growth. This individual will review new and renewal submissions, analyze risk exposures (including property-specific factors such as construction, occupancy, protection, and exposure), assess pricing and coverage structures, and partner closely with sales and carrier partners to deliver timely underwriting solutions. As Authentic builds out its in-house property capability, this role will help shape underwriting guidelines, workflows, and standards from the outset, complementing our existing middle market GL business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate new and renewal commercial property submissions
  • Analyze risk characteristics, loss history, financial information, and underwriting data, with particular attention to property exposure (COPE) factors
  • Assess pricing adequacy, coverage structures, and eligibility guidelines
  • Develop underwriting recommendations and make risk selection decisions within authority levels
  • Communicate proactively with brokers, carrier partners, and internal teams regarding submissions, quotes, renewals, and underwriting requirements
  • Manage accounts through the underwriting lifecycle including quoting, binding, endorsements, and renewals
  • Build and maintain strong broker relationships through responsiveness and service
  • Monitor account profitability and identify exposure trends
  • Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and file management
  • Partner closely with sales leadership to support business development and retention efforts
  • Help shape underwriting guidelines and processes as Authentic builds its in-house property program
  • Contribute to underwriting process improvements and operational efficiencies
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of commercial property underwriting experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of commercial property underwriting principles and risk evaluation
  • Experience working with retail brokers, MGAs, wholesalers, or carriers
  • Ability to independently manage multiple accounts and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities
  • High attention to detail and strong sense of accountability
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and insurance agency/carrier systems
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working for an insurance carrier, MGA, wholesaler, or insurtech platform
  • Exposure to commercial property, BOP, inland marine, or IPP products
  • Experience in small to middle-market commercial business preferred
  • Insurance licensing, coursework, or industry designations are a plus
  • Experience working in fast-paced or high-growth environments preferred
