Job Summary

The Propane/Refined Fuel Delivery Bobtail Driver is responsible for loading, transporting and delivering propane and refined fuel to our residential and commercial customers using a bobtail truck (3,000-5,000 gallon capacity). Our Bobtail Drivers are committed to Service, Efficiency and Safety.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Complies with all city, state, and federal regulations
  • Loads, secures, transports, and delivers propane to residential and commercial locations
  • Provides a high level of service to customers
  • Performs pre and post-trip inspections on equipment used for the transportation of hazardous materials
  • Maintains and completes accurate records by documenting truck inspections, hours of service, product transported, and miles driven in compliance with all DOT regulations
  • Maintains the operational efficiency of vehicles by monitoring truck maintenance needs, conducting minor repairs and conducting daily DOT truck inspections to ensure maximum vehicle safety
  • Ensures that delivery vehicle receives service according to maintenance schedule; reports larger service needs and mechanical issues to supervisor
  • Applies a thorough understanding of the technical concepts, practices and procedures and a general knowledge of industry standards and government regulations related to testing and transporting bulk petroleum products to pipeline injection points
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to use navigation tools such as onboard GPS, smartphone apps, and/or web-based or physical maps.
  • Ability to maintain accurate logs and records
  • Ability to carry out a series of instructions with limited supervision
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record
  • Ability to obtain the required certifications for LP delivery through the TXRRC within 30 - 90 days of employment

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Class A CDL license with hazmat/tanker endorsements required
  • Propane certification (highly preferred, but not required)
  • Ability to obtain Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
  • No more than 1 moving violation in the previous 2 years
  • 3+ years tractor and trailer experience in propane and/or fuel distribution business (preferred)
  • 1+ years tanker experience within the last 5 years (preferred)

Physical, Mental, and Behavioral Requirements:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by the incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to heavy weights of 10 to 100 lbs. for approximately 90% of the work shift.
  • Ability to regularly climb in and out of a commercial motor vehicle, multiple times per work shift
  • Good hand eye coordination, arm hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp and visual acuity to operate equipment is required, including at night.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching with hands and arms
  • Must be able to speak and hear
  • Position is subject to pre-hire DOT medical certification requirements and drug and/or alcohol testing, as well as a physical abilities test performed by a company provider
  • Must pass pre-employment screening
  • Position may require working additional hours as needed.
  • Work is normally performed outside where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, fumes and gases is common along with exposure to airborne particles
