Job description

Position Title: Assistant Foreperson

Department: Propagation

Reports To: Propagation Department Head
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Compensation: $19.00 - $21.00 / hour

Position Summary:

As an Assistant Foreperson in Propagation, you will play a key role in coordinating daily operations within our propagation department. You'll help guide cutting, sticking, and planting crews while ensuring accurate production data, inventory tracking, and process execution.

This position combines hands-on horticultural work with leadership responsibilities, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys developing people, improving processes, and producing high-quality plants.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Organize, prioritize, and execute daily work plans.
  • Lead and support propagation crews to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Foster a positive, productive, and safety-focused work environment.
  • Provide training, coaching, and ongoing support to team members.
  • Ensure employees have the tools, resources, and information needed to perform their work successfully.
  • Monitor daily propagation activities and independently manage assigned responsibilities.
  • Oversee critical production tasks, including:
    • Taking and sticking cuttings with consistency and quality
    • Planting liners into various container sizes
    • Moving, organizing, and maintaining greenhouse plant material
  • Assist with propagation and production trials, including setup, documentation, and data collection.
  • Continuously evaluate processes and recommend improvements that enhance efficiency, quality, and productivity.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of propagation materials and stock.
  • Record, analyze, and report production data and key performance metrics.
  • Ensure critical production information is accurately entered and maintained in company databases.
  • Document propagation activities, trial results, and operational outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and a willingness to train and develop others.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and data entry.
  • Knowledge of fundamental plant care practices, including watering, weeding, and pest management.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment and a willingness to learn additional machinery as needed.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license that meets company insurability requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Degree or coursework in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Previous greenhouse, nursery, or propagation experience.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
