***This is a 2-month temporary assignment***

About the Role

LA Business Personnel is hiring Multilingual Proofreaders to review translated election and ballot materials for an upcoming election cycle. You'll compare translated files against the English source to verify accuracy and completeness. This work is a required accuracy control in the county's process, and it's detail-critical: errors in ballot materials carry legal and public consequences.

This is a temporary, onsite assignment at a county facility.

Languages Needed

We are currently hiring for the following languages:

  • Vietnamese
  • Thai
  • Telugu
  • Tagalog
  • Mongolian
  • Korean
  • Farsi
  • Burmese
  • Bengali

What You'll Do

  • Compare translated ballot text, voter instructions, candidate statements, measure text, and voter-facing notices against the English source
  • Verify that no content is omitted, added, or altered in translation
  • Review formatting, pagination, diacritics, character rendering, and typography in the target language
  • Confirm that proper nouns, candidate names, party designations, dates, numbers, and measure identifiers match the source exactly
  • Apply county-provided glossaries, style guides, and terminology standards consistently
  • Document discrepancies using the county's designated markup or tracking process
  • Escalate translation questions to the supervising lead rather than resolving them independently
  • Complete assigned files on schedule and maintain confidentiality of all materials

What You Need

  • Native or near-native fluency in one of the languages listed above, reading and writing
  • Professional working proficiency in English
  • Proofreading, editing, translation review, or comparable detail-oriented experience
  • Availability to work onsite for the full scheduled assignment
  • Ability to follow written guidelines precisely
  • Ability to sustain focused review of repetitive material over extended periods
  • Must pass any background check or clearance required by the county
