Job description

Overview
We are currently in search of a Senior Product Engineer to join our Dehumidification team here at our Sun Prairie Innovation Center! In this dynamic role you will help with new and existing design solutions, identify opportunities for product and/or process change, and provide technical product support to Procurement and Operations to help maintain production schedules.
This is a hybrid position with three days a week required in Sun Prairie, WI.
Responsibilities
The Senior Engineer is tasked with responsibilities in the following key areas:
  • Preparing engineering specifications
  • Providing technical product support to Procurement and Operations to maintain production schedule
  • Developing cost effective, innovative product design solutions and improvements over existing designs
  • Identifying robust, cost-effective production methods

Leadership Accountabilities
  • Improve and integrate the design and development of products within the Product Engineering team.
  • Prepare, modify and approve production documentation
  • Identify product or productivity improvement opportunities
  • Collaborate with other functional groups as a technical resource for product line.
  • Be a technical voice in design reviews and design decisions.

Execution
  • Move designs forward to completion through innovation and collaboration
  • Execute project schedules, budgets, and performance deliverables.
  • Lead and contribute to continuous improvement activities such as warranty analysis, cost reduction, and alternate components evaluations
  • Use engineering problem solving tools and methods to systematically solve production or customer issues.

Process
  • Ensure adherence to processes such as FMEA, Warranty, FRACAS, PCO, NPI, and Quality Audit.
  • Collaborate with others in the Product Engineering team and other departments to accomplish goals and solve issues
  • Provide status and information to keep stakeholders informed and engaged of progress on key activities.
  • Provide prompt communication to stakeholders on important event occurrences.

Technical
  • Support purchasing of materials:
    • Evaluate alternate components against product specifications
    • Assist in qualifying vendors to meet product requirements
  • Provide application support to Product Management and Customer Service
  • Provide technical input for Continuous Improvement projects (Cost and Quality)
  • Collaborate with Lab Operation team and Product Approval team
    • Design experiments for product development and problem solving
    • Develop test plans to validate product design
  • Support manufacturing and operations
    • Ensure product design allows for a robust and quality assembly process
    • Provide product and process expertise as needed
  • Follow engineering and problem-solving principles in the execution of day-to-day work
  • Provide technical input in Product Engineering activities and Engineering design reviews.
  • Government and Regulatory Management
    • Know key requirements of safety and regulatory standards pertaining to products
    • Participate in and lead activities to ensure products and processes stay in compliance

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar disciplines
  • Requires 5+ years of product engineering experience including new product design and/or sustaining activities
  • Requires experience designing products that include refrigeration systems such as in appliances, HVAC products, or automotive products.
  • Experience in the design of high volume products is desirable
  • Experience working within industry codes and standards.
  • Deep understanding of refrigeration sealed systems required, including, but not limited to:
    • Analyzing psychometrics, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
    • Guiding Sourcing team for key component selection for both refrigeration and air-moving system
    • Guiding model shop for product prototyping, constructing test plans and conducting developmental testing
    • Investigating field returned warranty unit and determining solutions when issues occur
  • Passion for improving Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and achieving the goal of healthy air.
  • Experience leading or having a primary role on a team maintaining and improving current products.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks; ability to use for design and use analysis tools is a plus
  • Industry experience in consumer products, commercial products and/or electronic products that are mass produced.
  • Must have effective technical communication skills.
  • Must be able to produce professional and usable engineering output with minimal direction.
  • Working knowledge of regulations, standards, and codes such as those produced or endorsed by, but not limited to, IEC, IEEE, NEMA, NEC, UL, AHRI, and ASHRAE.
  • Understanding of Design for Six Sigma is a plus
  • Demonstrated understanding of environmental, reliability & qualification testing.
