Job description

Position Summary

The Construction Project Engineer supports the Project Manager and project team in the planning, coordination, documentation, and execution of construction projects. This role serves as a critical link between field operations, design consultants, contractors, and owners—ensuring that project documentation, schedules, budgets, and quality standards are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and eager to grow into a Project Manager role.

Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Administration

  • Assist in managing daily project activities, ensuring alignment with contract documents, schedules, and budgets
  • Support the preparation and tracking of project schedules, work plans, and milestone deliverables
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, consultants, inspectors, and internal stakeholders

Document Control & Technical Review

  • Manage and track submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and change requests
  • Review construction documents for constructability, completeness, and coordination issues
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records, logs, and reports

Cost & Change Management

  • Assist in evaluating change orders, pricing proposals, and budget impacts
  • Track project costs, commitments, and contingency usage
  • Support monthly pay application reviews and progress verification

Field & Site Support

  • Participate in site visits, inspections, and progress meetings
  • Assist with issue resolution related to field conditions, design clarifications, and schedule impacts
  • Support quality control and safety compliance efforts

Communication & Reporting

  • Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and action item logs
  • Develop weekly and monthly project status reports
  • Facilitate clear communication between field teams, management, and clients

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (required)

Experience

  • 1–5 years of experience in construction project support, engineering, or coordination
  • Exposure to commercial, institutional, K-12, healthcare, municipal, or multi-family construction preferred

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in construction technology platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and MS Office Suite
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts

Core Competencies

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on publicly funded or bond-funded projects (e.g., K-12, higher education, municipal)
  • Familiarity with change order management, pay applications, and procurement processes
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
