Be our next: Urban Planner 

The Urban Planner will be responsible for planning, designing, and managing land-use projects, urban development programs, and community planning initiatives. This role requires 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in urban design, zoning, and planning, combining technical knowledge with strong community engagement skills.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive urban and regional plans.
  • Conduct land-use and development studies, prepare planning reports, and provide recommendations for public and private projects.
  • Collaborate with city officials, developers, and stakeholders to review project proposals and ensure adherence to planning codes and sustainable practices.
  • Prepare and present planning reports, policy recommendations, and public presentations at community meetings and planning commissions.
  • Analyze community needs, population trends, and environmental impacts to guide planning and zoning decisions.
  • Manage and oversee planning projects, including timelines, budgets, and interdepartmental coordination.
  • Stay current with planning regulations, housing policy, transportation systems, and emerging urban design trends relevant to Tampa and surrounding areas.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Urban Planning, City Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • 5 to 10 years of professional experience in urban planning, including municipal planning or urban development projects.
  • Proficiency in GIS software, AutoCAD, or other planning/design software.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local land-use laws and zoning regulations.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to engage with communities and stakeholders effectively and diplomatically.
  • Based in Tampa, Florida, with occasional travel.
  • Work in an office setting with a combination of on-site and remote planning responsibilities.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or equivalent.
  • Experience with environmental planning and sustainability initiatives.
  • Knowledge of transportation planning, housing policy, and economic development.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing complex projects.
