Job description

Industrial & Heavy Industrial Construction | Structural Steel & PEMB
British Columbia or Alberta or Saskatchewan | Remote Position with Regular Travel Required

Colony Construction is a growing General Contractor specializing in industrial and heavy industrial construction. We're looking for an experienced Project Manager or Senior Project Manager who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and leading projects from preconstruction through closeout.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in industrial construction and direct experience managing structural steel and/or pre-engineered metal building projects. If you enjoy working closely with clients, field teams and subcontractors while delivering challenging projects safely, on schedule and within budget, we'd like to hear from you.

You'll have the opportunity to work in a collaborative, down-to-earth environment where decisions are made quickly, communication is straightforward and people are trusted to do their jobs well. As Colony continues to grow, you'll play an important role in delivering projects and strengthening client relationships across Western Canada.

You'll likely be a great fit if you have (Must haves...)

  • Experience as a Project Manager working for a General Contractor or pre-engineered steel builder on industrial or heavy industrial construction projects.
  • Direct experience managing structural steel and/or pre-engineered metal building projects.

This experience includes:

  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, contract documents and shop drawings.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, procurement and subcontractors.
  • Experience leading projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Strong understanding of quality control programs and construction standards.
  • The ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills across internal and external project teams.
  • Proficiency with project management software, Microsoft Office and standard construction tools.

Candidates must live in British Columbia, Alberta or Saskatchewan and within reasonable access of a major airport.

Willingness to travel for up to 10 days per month to project sites across Canada and Colony's head office in Surrey, British Columbia.

Nice to Have

  • Experience procuring and coordinating pre-engineered building packages.
  • Experience managing structural steel erection sequencing.
  • Working knowledge of civil, concrete, tilt-up, mechanical and electrical scopes.
  • Experience managing subcontractor buyout and procurement.
  • Experience delivering projects with full commercial and contractual responsibility.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead construction projects from preconstruction through closeout while taking responsibility for the technical and commercial success of the work.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules and overall project performance.
  • Review drawings, specifications, contracts and scope documents in detail.
  • Coordinate procurement, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants.
  • Lead the coordination of structural steel and PEMB packages, including procurement and erection sequencing.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Lead client meetings and provide regular project updates.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders and project documentation.
  • Support subcontractor buyout and procurement processes.
  • Ensure alignment between the estimate, contracted scope and field execution.
  • Lead project handovers from estimating and confirm a full understanding of scope, risks and commercial requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks before they affect cost, schedule or quality.
  • Maintain organized project documentation in accordance with Colony procedures.
  • Support site teams through regular communication, site visits and problem solving.
  • Protect Colony's financial and contractual interests.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Deliver projects safely, on schedule and within budget while maintaining strong client relationships.

In Your First Year

  • Successfully deliver one or more industrial or heavy industrial construction projects.
  • Become the primary point of contact for your assigned projects.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and field teams.
  • Take ownership of project budgets, schedules and overall execution.
  • Help improve project profitability, scheduling and risk management.
  • Help strengthen Colony's reputation for delivering quality industrial projects safely and reliably.

Why Colony

Our team is guided by clear commitments:

  • Happy to help.
  • Do the right thing.
  • Go home healthy.

Our goal is to deliver profitable projects ahead of schedule, build lasting relationships with clients and vendors, and create a work environment where project teams have confidence in one another.
