Job Title: Transmission Project ManagerJob Description

The Transmission Project Manager plans, leads, and executes transmission line and substation capital projects from initial concept through final closeout. This role provides leadership across all phases of the project lifecycle, including planning, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project turnover. The Project Manager ensures that projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable regulatory, environmental, and internal requirements, while supporting reliable utility operations and system growth.

Responsibilities
  • Lead transmission line and substation capital projects through all phases of development and execution, from initiation to closeout.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and stakeholder expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, outage planning, operations, environmental, permitting, land acquisition, and commissioning activities to ensure cohesive project delivery.
  • Direct internal project teams, engineering consultants, contractors, and vendors to achieve defined project objectives.
  • Ensure all projects comply with safety standards, regulatory requirements, environmental commitments, and company policies.
  • Develop and drive project execution strategies that support successful commercial and operational outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project execution plans and schedules in partnership with Project Controls personnel.
  • Monitor project progress and performance against approved milestones and deliverables.
  • Evaluate schedule impacts, identify delays, and implement recovery plans when necessary to maintain timelines.
  • Track project expenditures, commitments, and forecasts to ensure adherence to approved budgets.
  • Support cost variance analysis and provide accurate, timely financial reporting to leadership.
  • Develop budget forecasts and recommend corrective actions to address potential cost overruns or financial risks.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation and contingency plans to minimize impact on scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Manage project change requests, including scope modifications, and secure appropriate approvals.
  • Monitor emerging risks, escalate critical issues requiring leadership attention, and drive resolution.
  • Lead project reviews, lessons learned sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance future project performance.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of project decisions, risks, issues, and corrective actions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, including internal and external parties.
  • Prepare and deliver project updates, presentations, and executive-level reports that clearly communicate status, risks, and decisions.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with engineering, construction, operations, finance, regulatory agencies, contractors, landowners, and customers.
  • Facilitate communication among stakeholders to resolve conflicts, remove barriers, and align priorities across functions.
  • Support permitting, regulatory, and community outreach activities as needed to advance project approvals and acceptance.
  • Oversee construction management activities, including coordination of construction documents, field execution, and contractor performance.
  • Support outage management and planning to minimize system impacts during construction and commissioning.
  • Engage in project estimation, design coordination, and project engineering oversight to ensure technical and commercial alignment.
  • Apply project controls, risk management, and change management practices to maintain control over project outcomes.
  • Ensure capital projects align with broader capital improvement programs and organizational objectives.
  • Provide leadership to cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and a strong safety culture.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience managing capital projects in utility, power delivery, energy, construction, infrastructure, or industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of engineering design and construction practices relevant to transmission lines and substations.
  • Experience with outage coordination, permitting, land acquisition, and regulatory compliance processes.
  • Proven experience in project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and financial reporting.

  • Familiarity with utility project governance processes and stage-gate methodologies.
  • Experience with capital project controls frameworks and tools.
  • Experience with Primavera P6 scheduling software.
  • Experience with Oracle financial systems or similar project accounting platforms.
  • Knowledge of NERC and FERC requirements, as well as state regulatory requirements and utility industry standards.
  • Demonstrated safety leadership and commitment to safe work practices.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of how capital projects support organizational strategy.

Work Environment

This role combines office-based and field-based work in support of transmission and substation project sites. The Transmission Project Manager regularly collaborates with engineering, construction, operations, and external partners in an office setting while also visiting active project locations, contractor facilities, and stakeholder meeting venues. The position requires periodic travel to project sites and related facilities. The role includes supporting projects during critical construction periods, planned outages, and commissioning activities, which may require flexibility in working hours to align with field schedules and system needs. The work environment emphasizes safety, collaboration, and effective communication across diverse technical and non-technical teams.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $72.00/hr.
