What You Would Do in This Role

The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for managing the overall execution for an assigned project, including budgeting and scheduling. Project management activities include estimation, planning/scheduling, change management, identification and mitigation of risks, progress reporting, oversight of procurement activities, and coordination with various disciplines. The PM must understand the overall direction, priority and schedules to execute the project and work with various discipline leads to deliver successful solutions to the client. Project Managers at Vista are required to be informed about the details of the scope being executed, in order to utilize their experience to provide specific guidance to team members.

  • Holding the overall accountability for project outcomes
  • Managing project budgets and project staffing for project delivery within cost
  • Managing project schedules for project delivery within timelines 
  • Working with Engineering Discipline Managers and representative project Responsible Engineers to ensuring the quality of drawings, models and work products
  • Overseeing planning and development of engineering work packages (EWPs), including scope of work, bills of materials, isometrics, layouts, various discipline specific lists, etc.
  • Coordinating aspects of change management and ensuring its effective implementation: trends, scope changes, design change notices (DCN) and field change notice (FCN), etc.
  • Managing action items to ensure they are completed on schedule
  • Creation of and stewarding to project risk management plans; including formal risk reviews and ongoing risk mitigation
  • Contributing to and monitoring project KPIs, earned value and project reporting
  • Developing and managing vendor/contractor relationships
  • Understanding the interfaces between procurement and non-procurement disciplines and ensuring appropriate processes and procedures are followed
  • Reviewing and evaluating standard procurement documents including bid lists, requests for quotation / proposal and commercial bid evaluations
  • Performing other duties as requested
Required Qualifications and Skills 

Only Candidates meeting these minimum requirements will be considered for this role

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 10-25 years of progressive engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years of independent management of project delivery
  • Technical competency in a minimum of one engineering field (Process, Civil/Structural, Mechanical, Piping, Instrumentation/Controls, Electrical, etc.)
  • Detailed knowledge of consulting engineering & procurement (EP) processes and workflows
  • Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team 
  • Proven experience in relationship management
  • Ability to influence and negotiate
  • Experienced in conflict management
  • P.Eng. designation
  • Ability to work from Vista’s home office location (Calgary).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing several mid to major/large-capital projects throughout the full lifecycle
  • Site experience
