Job description

Aboutthe Internship

This intern will report tothe Project Planning & Development Manager in the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ODEI).Expandingopportunities forsmall,minority,andwomen-owned business enterprises(M/WBEs)is a critical part of the Port Authority's inclusionary contracting practices.The Project Planning & Development teamsupports the early phases of thosecontractingpractices andis one of the four units that reportto theAssistant Director ofBusiness Diversity/Compliance Management.This intern will gain an understanding of theagency's contractingand solicitationprocess,along withhowsmall businessesareincludedalong the way.

Responsibilities

  • Conductoutreachtoand surveysforfirmsregarding upcoming contracts
  • Preparelist offirms, managingcontractdatasets, anddrafting participationmemos
  • Track construction projects, analyzecontract detailsto identify opportunities for participation, and prepare briefing materials for the Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer
  • Draft process and procedure document documents and assist in the implementation of process improvements
  • Prepare presentation materials and presenting key topics at ODEI briefings
  • Perform data analytics and database management
  • Assist with special projects and assignments as needed

MinimumQualifications

  • Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
  • Majorinurban planning, public policy, engineering, business administration,political science, or related discipline
  • Interest in working in the public sector and contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region
  • Excellent communication, research, and presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

DesiredQualifications

  • Ability to multi-task and complete projects with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently on complex assignments and to work in a fast-paced team environment on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Knowledge of Business-to-Government (B2G) Now software

Internship Details

  • The start date is expected to be in September 2026
  • This internship will require 36.25 hours/week
  • In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.
