Job Description:

Role Purpose:

To effectively manage all construction contractors and onsite activities in the delivery of Sibelco major projects to ensure that projects are constructed safely, on time, to budget, in accordance with quality objectives

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of site administration by arranging relevant permits and licences, monitoring regulatory compliance requirements, standards of workmanship, adherence to Sibelco policy, Health, Safety and Environment requirements and other relevant guidelines

  • Arrange site security services

  • Develop material receiving facilities and secure equipment laydown areas

  • Implement efficient warehousing process and procedures

  • Conduct system identification for pre-commissioning and commissioning

  • Develop detailed construction management plan and resource-loaded construction schedule to enable an optimum commissioning and turnover sequence

  • Define construction work areas, develop and sequence construction and field installation work packages

  • Based on the construction schedule and packages, confirm Required At Site dates for critical long lead and major tagged equipment and material for interconnected engineering and procurement work package development

  • Provide early construction input to plant and equipment layout, path of construction, construction strategy, and contracting approach

  • Participate in engineering design and risk reviews to ensure that safety, constructability, operability and maintainability are integrated into detail designs and execution planning

  • Determine appropriate construction team structure and size, and secure required resources by communicating with the Director Major Projects, other Sibelco departments and external resources where appropriate

  • Provide input into general contractor selection

  • Develop contractor resource plan, ramp-up and ramp-down of construction resources, including weekend work and night shift

  • Direct engagement and management of onsite contractors and subcontractors

  • Execute scope of work to baseline WBS, project execution plan, contract management plan, project schedule and construction management plan, including fabrication, pre-assembly/ modularisation, logistics, site laydown and fabrication, mobile equipment and lifting equipment requirements

  • Deliver construction works on time and within budget through accurately interpreting contractual requirements, coordinating and supervising the construction process, ensuring works performed are in accordance with technical drawings and specifications, and maintaining operational lines of communication with all relevant stakeholders

  • Manage plant and equipment material management from warehouse/ laydown areas to workfronts

  • Manage deviations to project scope, cost, schedule or technical specifications and escalate high risk issues to the Director Major Projects

  • Monitor construction activities by regular surveillance, inspection and formal planned audits to ensure quality of designs and installed works, and implement correction action and remedial plans in timely manner

  • Maintain good housekeeping and safe work rules, procedures and practices with particular emphasis on Sibelco's Fatal 7 to ensure safe working environment

  • Develop construction progress (by discipline) s-curve and update regularly

  • Track construction quantity trends and productivity

  • Manage changes, variations and site instructions

  • Provide regular cost forecast to Director Major Projects

  • Keep complete body of evidence of changes to support Legal and Procurement with claims and counterclaims

  • Prepare pre-commissioning and commissioning work packages, complete with performance testing and inspection packages, resource and material requirements, and detailed work plan

  • Coordinate engineering and Original Equipment Manufacturer start-up support

  • Prepare punchlists, remedy required punch items, and complete Turnover of Care, Custody and Control to operations

  • Maintain as-built data and documentation records for electronic backdratfing and archiving

About you:

  • Degree in engineering, or equivalent

  • 15+ years industry experience

  • 10+ years' experience in Construction Management and/ or equivalent experience in managing large, complex projects

  • Experience in construction trade and superintendent roles

  • Proven ability to manage, motivate and influence employees at all levels

  • Commitment to mentoring and coaching onsite personnel

  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills

  • Well-developed written and oral skills

  • English - proficient verbal and writing

  • Other languages are an asset
