As a member of the PMO, this position will be responsible for working with project managers within the functional areas to drive project management maturity and governance with the IT Division (ITD).


Key responsibilities of this role are:
To advise and mentor project managers regarding sound project management practices and the technology project governance requirements of VDOT and VITA (Virginia Information Technology Agency).Support the project managers in the development of project plans and schedules.Provide governance to support the delivery of projects to schedule, cost and scope performance metrics.Support project managers in the identifying, analyzing, monitoring, mitigating and reporting on risks. Be an advocate to drive change within the organization and mature the way ITD delivers projects.Develop and write project management processes to support governance.Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of technology project management.

  • PMP certification from PMI or PM certification from VITA is required - no other certification qualifies.

  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

  • Self-directed and independent.

  • Excellent negotiation and collaboration skills.
    Advise and mentor project managers regarding sound project management practices and the technology project governance requirements of VDOT and VITA (Virginia Information Technology Agency).

  • Develop and document policy, standards and guidelines. Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures in the execution of technology projects.

  • Monitor the progress of technology projects and provide quick and accurate responses to IT Management as to status, issues and risks of those projects.

  • Serve as liaison between IT management, project managers and VITA.

  • Monitor and support the management of the division's technology portfolio comprised of projects, systems, data and tools.

  • Provide mentoring, coaching, training and on-boarding for project managers in the areas of project management tools, standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Train and mentor new members of the IT Project Governance team as needed.
    Provides overall direction to project managers in formulation, development, implementation, and delivery of projects.

  • Exercises oversight of the achievement of performance, revenue, and profit objectives of a project and its contracts.

  • Ensures that the project manager has created a project plan that maintains tasks, schedules, estimates, and status, and disseminates information to team members and customers.

  • Oversees structure and organization for the management of a complex environment with emphasis on cost, schedule, scope and quality.

  • Directs corrective actions in any area where performance falls below objectives.

  • Ensures the project manager arranges for the assignment of responsibility to other supporting facilities, business areas, and support functions, and monitors their performance.

  • Responsible for overseeing the coordination and completion of projects.Monitors and summarizes progress of projects.Experience with Microsoft Project Professional within a Project Server environment required.

  • Skills in Microsoft Office Project Professional, Word, Excel and Powerpoint are required.
