Job description

Labsphere is looking for a Project Manager based in our North Sutton, NH office. This person will oversee the planning, design, and development of standard products in the photonics and light metrology market segments. In this role, you will manage project workflow management within engineering including system design, review, and release to manufacturing, as well as product performance and validation testing for unique optical systems. Projects typically involve a combination of optical, mechanical, electrical, software, and thermal design.

The Project Manager will be expected to coordinate the project through the development life cycle and work with other Engineering and Project Managers to define priorities, assign tasks, and work with production personnel to meet the performance specifications of the project deliverable while having direct responsibility for the project cost estimations. The Project Manager will work with Product Managers on standard product design developing and refining the market and product requirements for successful product development. This will involve new product offerings as well as sustaining efforts on existing products.

To succeed, the candidate must be a hands-on person and act as a driver to motivate and steer the team to meet the budget and schedule demands of the project while satisfying customer requirements. You should be organized, self-motivated, and eager to learn about and develop new technology. The candidate will need to manage multiple projects/tasks and work within a cross-functional team environment to provide creative and innovative solutions to solve challenging problems.

Job Duties:

  • Manage all assigned project activities and workflows including scheduling/resourcing, planning, design reviews, interdepartmental liaising, project reporting, and risk management.
  • Assist in defining project scope with relevant stakeholders to ensure technical feasibility.
  • Manage scope creep by adjusting pricing, schedule, and performance to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for tracking all engineering efforts with focus during the design phase.
  • Facilitate design reviews and other forms of communication, to ensure intra and inter-departmental collaboration.
  • Interface with engineering leadership, engineers, vendors, sales/customers, and internal production teams to ensure design, build, and test requirements and execution plans are understood and achieved.
  • End-to-End project oversight to ensure on-schedule and on-budget execution.
  • When appropriate, interface with sales/customers during project execution.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in science, engineering, management, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of technical project management experience within manufacturing sector with a focus on standard product design
  • Experience guiding multi-disciplinary team tasked with solving technical problems
  • Able to balance attention to detail with strategic thinking, risk management, and decision making
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills with ability to efficiently switch between multiple tasks/projects across the workday
  • Self-motivated leader who can positively influence and drive teams
  • Project management experience with planning, design management, customer communication, and verification and verification
  • Analytical thinker with strong foundation of technical problem-solving abilities
  • Fluent with MS Office including MS Project, Planner, Portfolio Manager, Wrike, or similar project management tools
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing products in the photonics industry with any of these topics: LEDs, UV/VIS/NIR applications, Remote Sensing, Light Measurement, Integrating Sphere Design, Optical Sensor Calibration, Optical System Design, Optical Laboratory Methods, Laser Power Measurement, and Thermal Analysis
  • Experience with ERP systems, Epicor preferred.
  • Experience in a field utilizing light metrology and/or optical radiometry
