Job Summary
The Senior Technical Project Manager works within the Projects and Processes Control Center organization, which is responsible for executing critical Operational Technology (OT) systems and infrastructure projects (e.g., near real-time operating control systems, next-generation AMI, data center construction and relocations, substation automation, line sensors) to help enable grid modernization across Avangrid. This position is responsible for managing these complex projects, and requires close collaboration with peers across Connecticut, Maine, and New York and other groups, particularly Electric and Gas Operations, IT, and Operational Smart Grids (e.g., Control Systems & Automation, Smart Metering, Infrastructure & Compliance, and Telecommunications).
Key Responsibilities
  • Leads the execution of complex projects end-to-end from development through deployment and close-out including transition to operations
  • Responsible for leading cross-functional teams on the development of project scope, technical requirements, various plans (e.g., project, testing, training, transition, resource), and project close-out documentation including lessons learned
  • Responsible for measuring and tracking project plans' progression, risks, and milestones
  • Responsible for project financials, including developing budgets, managing budget variances, forecasting budgets, and developing benefit-cost analyses
  • Evaluates and adheres to regulatory and compliance reporting requirements
  • Manages vendor engagements and contract negotiations
  • Makes recommendations to business areas then implements solutions to promote efficiencies and innovation

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience preferred
  • Control Systems experience preferred
  • Experience leading technical cross-functional teams required
  • Experience navigating procurement processes, including the development of RFPs and contract requirements, required
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, and payment and accrual processes required
  • Experience working in IT / OT (e.g., telecommunications, network or systems engineering, applications support) project management and/or operations, required
  • Demonstrated track record of driving decision-making, learning new technologies and systems, and building cross-functional relationships with key stakeholders required
  • Experience using project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera, Smartsheet) required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP required
  • Experience working in electric and/or gas utilities strongly preferred
  • Experience with Change Management and Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) standards and processes preferred
  • Related certifications (e.g., PMP, Lean Six Sigma) preferred
