Job description

Waggoner Engineering, Inc. is hiring a Project Manager for our Birmingham, AL office to lead the delivery of water, stormwater, wastewater, and related municipal/industrial projects. This role manages scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations from kickoff through closeout, while partnering with discipline leaders and project teams to deliver high-quality outcomes. The Project Manager also supports growth with existing clients through strong relationships, proactive communication, and identification of follow-on opportunities.ย 
  • Lead project delivery end-to-end: Initiate, plan, execute, monitor/control, and close water/stormwater projects while meeting scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Manage financial performance: Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, staffing plans, and project controls to achieve revenue, profitability/multiplier, and cash/AR objectives.
  • Coordinate multi-discipline teams and resources: Align internal discipline leads and subconsultants; run project kickoff and recurring coordination; ensure timely, accurate deliverables.
  • Own client communication and satisfaction: Serve as the primary point of contact; provide frequent status updates; resolve issues; manage expectations; and protect Waggoner's standard of care.
  • Drive growth with existing clients: Identify and develop add-on/next-phase work; support proposal strategy and development; and contribute to account planning/CRM updates.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering (or closely related engineering discipline).
  • Minimum of five years of experience.ย 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (AL preferred; ability to obtain AL licensure if not currently held).
  • Demonstrated project management experience delivering water/stormwater/wastewater projects (municipal and/or industrial), including scope, schedule, and budget ownership.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage stakeholders, including coordinating discipline leads, subconsultants, and client counterparts.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to produce clear project plans, status reporting, and proposal/client-facing materials.
