Job description
About Friends For Life
We are a progressive animal shelter in Houston, Texas following the No Kill model. We are situated in our own beautiful, LEED certified, green shelter facility. We've been at it since 2002 and have earned a solid reputation as a leader in the Houston shelter community. We have an amazing team doing remarkable work.
Friends For Life is looking for a full-time Marketing Coordinator to help us tell our story and strengthen our connection to people interested in the welfare of animals in Houston and beyond.
This role is best suited to someone with passion for animals and marketing. Are you nerdy enough to be a stickler for grammar but also creative enough to see the fun in doing a morning spot on live TV with animals? Then you might be the one.
Your work
- You will be the voice of FFL. Work with our Executive Director to understand and refine the voice of FFL. Communicate how we're different and why we are worth supporting. Attend events as an ambassador of FFL.
- You will tell stories. Part journalist, part documentarian, part entertainer - you will tell the FFL story in a compelling way and empower others to share it.
- You will manage our online presence. Keep our website updated via CMS. Evaluate our social channels and help prioritize our focus. Help track, and report metrics associated with each online channel and offer ways to improve these metrics. Your suggestions will reflect both research and creative spark.
- You will grow our name recognition. Manage our media outreach and promote FFL's reputation among journalists in Houston and beyond.
- You will help our animals find loving homes. Promote adoptable animals, create materials, tout success stories, inspire a sense of urgency, write blog posts and keep communication lively.
- You manage vendors and volunteers. Manage vendors (web design, graphic design) on selected projects. Grow a group of volunteers with creative skills (writing, video, photography, graphic design, web design) to pull into overflow work. Maximize free resources where possible.
Who you are
- You love animals. You are also pretty fond of people.
- You love FFL (or you will soon) and understand what we do. You get how we're different, what we believe in. You would be proud to represent us out in the world.
- You have a knack for connecting with people. Whether it's a frustrated pet owner, a shy volunteer, a pushy news anchor or a high-profile journalist.
- You are an engaging writer and craft what you send out into the world with pride.
- You're a web user and an early adopter of technologies in communication. You're active on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You might have a Snapchat account, but we're not asking.
- You're savvy when it comes to digital marketing, analytics and marketing strategy.
- You're extremely well organized and juggle many tasks to hit deadlines without fail.
Educational and Experience
- You have a bachelor's degree.
- You have at least 3 years experience in the field of marketing / advertising. We are looking for a skillset including the creation of media plans, writing press releases, acquiring media placement, packaging messages for print and online media. We can't wait for you to show us how you have been the effective media voice for an organization and tell us how you did it!
Benefits for our full-time employees include:
- Salary $35k to start
- Five (5) paid holidays
- Seven days (7) days paid time off the first year. Additional PTO is earned based on tenure.
- We will provide you with free veterinary products for your personal pets including: Free heartworm preventative, free vaccinations, free subcutaneous fluids, free de-wormer and in limited situations, free food and litter.
- You will work in a LEED green building.
- We will fund approved training and professional development.
- When people ask you what you do, you will be able to say, "I save lives for a living. What do you do?"
- You can have an animal in your office. Probably not a monkey. Sorry about that.
How to Apply:
Before you apply, check out FFL on www.friends4life.org. Get to know us a bit. Think you'd fit in? Think you'd be able to offer something to tell our stories even more effectively?
Send us a compelling cover email and a resume. Confidentiality is assured. We are an EOE. We look forward to meeting you.
