Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced IT Project Manager (5–10 years) to lead cross-functional technology implementation projects across the utilities and energy sector. This role requires exceptional facilitation skills, the ability to drive alignment across diverse departments, and the proven capability to deliver complex IT initiatives with minimal oversight. The Project Manager will ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and aligned with business objectives while building strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

This position is 70% remote but requires travel for workshops, key project milestones, and in-person stakeholder meetings in Birmingham, AL; Atlanta, GA; and Mississippi.


Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & Execution
  • Lead the delivery of IT and technology implementation projects, ensuring alignment with business and operational needs.

  • Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals, milestones, deliverables, resource requirements, and detailed schedules.

  • Drive the entire project lifecycle—from concept creation through successful implementation.

  • Lead sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and other Agile ceremonies where applicable.

  • Maintain visibility into project status, progress, and deliverables for stakeholders.

Stakeholder Engagement & Facilitation
  • Facilitate cross-departmental discussions, including difficult conversations, to resolve conflicts and drive consensus.

  • Collaborate with technical teams, product owners, and business stakeholders to break down complex projects into achievable plans.

  • Provide clear, concise updates to leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.

  • Manage vendor and contractor relationships to ensure deliverables meet scope and quality expectations.

Risk & Dependency Management
  • Identify, track, and manage project risks, dependencies, and issues.

  • Develop and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, cybersecurity, and IT governance standards relevant to utility operations.


QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

  • 5–10 years of IT project management experience, preferably within utilities, energy, or infrastructure environments.

  • Proven ability to deliver large-scale technology implementations with minimal oversight.

  • Strong facilitation skills—able to ask the right questions, challenge assumptions, and guide teams toward solutions.

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing cross-functional dependencies and driving execution in complex environments.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Advanced problem-solving, negotiation, and organizational skills.

Preferred
  • PMP or Agile/Scrum certification.

  • Prior experience managing technology rollouts in utilities or energy organizations.

  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements impacting IT in the energy sector.

  • Strong background with tools such as MS Project, Jira, or similar project management software.


Working Conditions
