Traveling Construction Project Superintendent

Etzel Engineer and Build, Inc.

Location: Nationwide / Field-Based - Candidates may reside anywhere in the U.S.

Travel: Extensive travel required

Employment Type: Full-Time, Salaried, plus bonus

Build Mission-Critical Projects Across the Country

Etzel Engineer and Build, Inc. is seeking an experienced Traveling Construction Project Superintendent to lead field operations for commercial and mission-critical construction projects throughout the United States.

This is a hands-on field leadership position for a Superintendent who knows how to run a jobsite, coordinate multiple trades, maintain schedule and safety, solve problems in the field, and represent the company professionally with clients and project partners.

Our work is primarily focused on mission-critical and high-reliability facilities, with an emphasis on design-build project delivery. Experience with data centers, high-reliability facilities, or complex MEP-intensive environments is highly valued.

Candidates may live anywhere in the United States but must be willing and able to travel to project sites nationwide as required.

About Etzel Engineer and Build

Etzel Engineer and Build is a growing design-build construction company with a strong reputation in the Mission Critical and High-Reliability markets.

We believe successful projects are built on more than schedules and budgets. We focus on developing lasting relationships with our clients, owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors while delivering challenging projects safely and successfully.

We're looking for Superintendents who share that approach and want the opportunity to take ownership of projects in the field.

What You'll Do

As a Traveling Project Superintendent, you will be responsible for the day-to-day field leadership and execution of assigned construction projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead all day-to-day field operations from mobilization through project closeout.
  • Manage and coordinate subcontractors and field labor.
  • Drive the project schedule and maintain weekly 3-week look-ahead schedules.
  • Coordinate sequencing and communication between trades.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and secure jobsite.
  • Enforce project safety requirements and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports and documentation of jobsite activities.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and other quality-control activities.
  • Perform and/or coordinate field layout and survey activities.
  • Monitor field costs, including labor and material usage.
  • Identify field conflicts early and work with the project team to develop practical solutions.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, owners, inspectors, engineers, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Participate in weekly project meetings and provide clear field updates.
  • Coordinate closely with the Project Manager throughout construction.
  • Lead field activities associated with punch lists, commissioning, turnover, and project closeout.
  • Support warranty responses after project completion as required.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of commercial construction experience as a Superintendent with a background.
  • Strong working knowledge of the major trades involved in commercial construction.
  • Demonstrated ability to directly supervise subcontractors and field labor.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, safety, and quality control.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple trades on complex projects.
  • Strong leadership, organization, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to address difficult field issues using practical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Professional presence when interacting with clients, designers, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Project or similar construction technology.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the United States.

Preferred Experience

We're especially interested in candidates with experience involving:

  • Mission-critical construction
  • Data centers
  • High-reliability facilities
  • Design-build construction
  • Complex MEP systems and coordination
  • Commissioning and turnover of critical building systems

Preferred certifications include:

  • OSHA 30
  • First Aid / CPR / AED
  • Forklift certification
  • Aerial lift certification

Compensation & Benefits

Etzel Engineer and Build offers a competitive compensation package designed to reward strong field leadership and project performance, including:

  • Competitive base salary
  • Performance-based incentive program
  • Vehicle allowance
  • Company phone
  • Medical benefits
  • 401(k)
  • Opportunities for continued professional growth and advancement

Travel Expectations

This is a traveling Superintendent position supporting projects nationwide.

Candidates can be based anywhere in the United States. Your home location is less important than your ability to travel to and remain near active project sites as required by the project.

Schedules are generally Monday through Friday, with alternative schedules such as four 10-hour days potentially used while traveling when project conditions allow.

Who Will Be Successful Here?

You'll likely be a strong fit if you're a Superintendent who enjoys taking ownership of the field, understands how the trades come together,

communicates well with both craft professionals and clients, and is comfortable making decisions in fast-moving construction environments.

If you've successfully delivered complex commercial, mission-critical, data center, or MEP-intensive projects and are open to traveling nationwide, we'd like to hear from you.

Etzel Engineer and Build, Inc. is hiring immediately for this position.
