Project Manager Semiconductor information

What does a project manager in the semiconductor industry do?

A Project Manager in the semiconductor industry oversees the planning, execution, and completion of projects related to the design, manufacturing, or improvement of semiconductor products. They coordinate cross-functional teams, manage budgets and timelines, and ensure that project goals align with business objectives. Their responsibilities also include identifying risks, resolving issues, and communicating progress to stakeholders. Successful project managers in this field need strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology and market demands.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project manager in the semiconductor industry?

To thrive as a Project Manager in the semiconductor industry, you need strong project management expertise, a background in engineering or related technical fields, and experience with semiconductor processes. Familiarity with project management tools (such as MS Project or Jira), semiconductor design software, and certifications like PMP or Six Sigma are highly valued. Outstanding communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help coordinate cross-functional teams and navigate complex technical challenges. These skills ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope, driving innovation and efficiency in a highly competitive industry.

How does a project manager in the semiconductor industry typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project's lifecycle?

As a Project Manager in the semiconductor industry, you will regularly coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality assurance teams to ensure project milestones are met. This role requires frequent cross-departmental meetings to align on technical requirements, resolve bottlenecks, and manage timelines. Effective communication and the ability to translate complex technical details into actionable tasks are essential, as you’ll act as the bridge between technical teams and executive stakeholders. Collaboration tools and structured processes, such as Agile or Stage-Gate methodologies, are often used to maintain project visibility and momentum.

What is the difference between Project Manager Semiconductor vs Product Manager Semiconductor?

Job description

Senior Civil Engineer

Redwood Materials is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to serve as a senior individual contributor on our internal EPC Infrastructure Engineering team. In this role, you will independently deliver civil design and engineering across our battery manufacturing, recycling, and BESS infrastructure projects - managing work through all phases from planning and design through bid and construction. You will partner closely with internal multi-disciplinary teams and external consultants to produce coordinated, code-compliant designs that support Redwood's mission of building a sustainable circular economy for lithium-ion batteries and battery energy storage systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple civil engineering projects throughout planning, design, bid, and construction phases, including BMC1 sitewide infrastructure, plant projects, and off-site BESS deployments
  • Independently develop high-quality civil engineering deliverables including construction documents, drawings, specifications, narratives, and calculations in conformance with IBC, ASCE 7, and local jurisdictional requirements
  • Proactively communicate project needs, changes, schedule, and status to internal stakeholders and external team members
  • Review drawings and proposals by vendors, engineers, and architects, and drive multi-disciplinary coordination across structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and I&C
  • Manage external civil engineering consultants including scope of work, deliverables, and budget, and guide consultant designs through project completion
  • Perform constructability reviews, support permitting and agency coordination with Storey County and other AHJs, and resolve civil RFIs and field changes during construction
  • Ensure compliance with company engineering processes, applicable codes and standards, and regulatory and safety requirements across all design deliverables

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline; advanced degree preferred
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE); Nevada licensure required or obtainable via comity within 2 months of hire
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and building high-tech/industrial infrastructure and operational facilities (semiconductor, solar, battery, manufacturing, etc.) or battery energy storage system deployments
  • Experience in civil engineering design including stormwater management plans (flood control and water quality), SWPPPs, heavy civil, wastewater, and manufacturing/industrial operational construction
  • Site development background with experience designing roadways, grading, pavements, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, domestic and fire water main systems, erosion and sediment control, and traffic plans
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and hydrology/stormwater management software
  • Working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, and NFPA with the ability to quickly research local jurisdictional requirements
  • Ability to conduct, document, and stamp engineering calculations and design packages applying established procedures and safety requirements
  • Ability to manage external civil consultants through all project phases including scope, schedule, deliverables, and budget
  • Ability to juggle multiple concurrent projects and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment; travel up to 10% between Nevada plant sites
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, external consultants, contractors, and AHJs
