Job description

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer Manager

Department: Manufacturing Engineering

Accountability: This position reports to the Vice President of Operations

Position Summary: The Manufacturing Engineering Manager leads and develops a high-performing Manufacturing Engineering team to drive operational excellence, production efficiency, quality, and cost optimization across all manufacturing locations. The position plays a critical role in new product introduction, continuous improvement, capital project execution, and cross-functional collaboration to support safe, reliable, and world-class manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for translating product and process requirements into scalable, efficient manufacturing solutions aligned with Havis’ Operational Model.


Key Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive process improvement initiatives across all locations to enhance productivity, quality, safety, and cost performance
  • Lead cross-functional teams to optimize factory layouts, material flow, tooling, fixtures, and work cell design
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and data-driven problem-solving methodologies to eliminate waste and improve process capability
  • Monitor manufacturing performance through observation, measurement, and analysis; recommend and implement corrective actions

Process Documentation & Standardization

  • Develop, maintain, and deploy standard manufacturing documentation, including Process Flows, PMFEAs, Control Plans and Work Instructions
  • Ensure consistent training and adherence to standardized processes across manufacturing teams

Capital Projects & Technology Enablement

  • Lead capital equipment and automation projects, including justification, implementation, and validation
  • Collaborate with Facilities and Production teams to support equipment upgrades, capacity expansion, and process optimization
  • Evaluate and support automation, robotics, and Industry 4.0 opportunities where appropriate

New Product Introduction (NPI) & Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Product, Quality, Production & Design Engineering during new product introduction to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and smooth transition from development to full-scale production
  • Support development and validation of manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures for new and existing products
  • Work closely with Purchasing and Quality teams to ensure robust incoming inspection processes

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Manufacturing Engineers, fostering both technical expertise and leadership capability
  • Establish clear goals, communicate expectations, and conduct regular performance evaluations and development planning
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and employee engagement


Qualifications:

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required
    • Master’s degree preferred
  • Work Experience
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
    • At least 2 years of experience in a people leadership or supervisory role
    • Preferred experience in sheet metal fabrication & injection molding
  • Technical & Professional Skills
    • Strong working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies
    • Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software
    • Experience with fixturing design, plant layout, and work cell development
    • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems; Industry 4.0 technologies considered a plus
    • Experience with automation, robotics, and CNC programming strongly preferred
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced capability in Microsoft Excel
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical recommendations to varied audiences
  • Physical & Work Requirements
    • Ability to regularly lift to 25 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
    • Visual requirements include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
    • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment that may include machinery, noise, dust, and chemicals (refer to SDS)
    • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and computer/electronic equipment as required
