Job description

At MacKay Contracting Ltd., we don’t just build projects — we build partnerships, infrastructure, and solutions that keep industries moving. For over 40 years, we’ve delivered complex civil construction and mining services across the East Kootenays and beyond, supporting some of the largest mining operations in the region.

From mine infrastructure and earthworks to road maintenance, tailings work, and heavy civil construction, we take pride in safely delivering high-quality work in demanding environments.

Everything we do is driven by our Core Values:

  • Be Safe Always – Safety is our highest priority, every shift, every task, every day.
  • Unified as a TEAM – Trust, Effort, Attitude, and Mission drive our success.
  • Integrity & Accountability – We take ownership and follow through.
  • Lead with Innovation & Excellence – We continuously improve and adapt.
  • Drive Positive Impact – We create lasting value for our clients, crews, and communities.

We’re looking for a Mining Project Manager who understands the pace, complexity, and expectations of mining operations and can successfully lead projects in active mine environments.

How You’ll Contribute

As a Mining Project Manager, you’ll oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of mining-related construction and operational projects. You’ll work closely with mine representatives, field crews, Superintendents, subcontractors, and senior leadership to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to ongoing mine operations.

This role requires strong leadership, operational awareness, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in high-demand environments where safety, communication, and responsiveness are critical.

Your ability to build strong relationships, solve problems quickly, and maintain accountability will directly contribute to the success of both MacKay and our mining partners.

What You’ll Get to Do

  • Lead mining and heavy civil projects from planning through completion
  • Coordinate project execution within active mining environments while ensuring alignment with site-specific requirements and operational schedules
  • Perform site visits, project walkthroughs, and assist with project planning, logistics, and mobilization
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, forecasting, and cost tracking
  • Coordinate equipment, manpower, subcontractors, materials, and procurement requirements
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with mine representatives, consultants, and stakeholders
  • Oversee project progress and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to client expectations
  • Support field operations teams by helping resolve project challenges, scheduling conflicts, and operational issues
  • Manage project documentation including contracts, change orders, permits, reports, and daily tracking
  • Ensure project management systems remain accurate and current
  • Lead regular project meetings and communicate progress updates to clients and leadership
  • Participate in safety planning, incident investigations, hazard assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Champion MacKay’s “Be Safe Always” Core Value through strong safety leadership and accountability
  • Support workforce development through mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies and future project growth

Who You Are

You’re an experienced construction professional who understands the unique challenges of working in mining environments. You know how to balance operational demands, production schedules, safety requirements, and project deliverables while maintaining strong working relationships with crews and clients.

You’re organized, adaptable, and confident making decisions in fast-paced environments where priorities can shift quickly. You lead by example, communicate clearly, and take ownership of outcomes.

You have:

  • 5+ years of project management experience in mining, heavy civil, or industrial construction
  • Experience managing projects within active mine sites or large industrial operations
  • Strong knowledge of earthworks, roadbuilding, utilities, mine support services, or heavy civil construction
  • Experience managing project schedules, budgets, forecasting, and cost controls
  • Strong leadership and team coordination abilities
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to changing operational demands
  • Strong understanding of mine site safety requirements and procedures
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, equipment, and field operations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract
  • The ability to travel regularly to mine sites and work in varying field conditions

Even better if you have:

  • Experience working on Teck or other large-scale mining operations
  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with mine infrastructure, tailings, haul roads, or production support projects
  • Knowledge of mine maintenance shutdowns and operational scheduling
  • Additional safety certifications or supervisory training

What’s In It for You

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Extended health and dental benefits
  • Opportunities for advancement and long-term career growth
  • Exposure to large-scale mining and civil construction projects
  • A strong team culture built on accountability, safety, and teamwork
  • The opportunity to work alongside experienced construction and mining professionals
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities

This role will primarily support mining operations in the Sparwood area and will require regular travel to mine sites and project locations.

Work schedules may vary depending on operational and project requirements, with flexibility required to support active mining operations.

Why MacKay?

At MacKay Contracting, we believe strong leadership and strong teams build successful projects. We’re looking for people who take pride in their work, communicate openly, and are committed to delivering results safely and professionally.

If you’re ready to help lead mining projects that keep operations moving and communities growing, we want to hear from you.
