The Opportunity

BGCCVI operates with a $10.9Mbudget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, driven by a dedicated team of over 150 fulland part-time employees. We are currently seeking a qualified, experiencedprofessional to join our executive leadership team in the full-time role ofDirector of Finance

Reporting to theExecutive Director, the Director of Finance provides strategic leadership andoversight of all financial operations at BGCCVI, ensuring sustainability,effective operations, and risk management.

The Director ofFinance is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the finance and accountingfunctions, including accounting department oversight, budgeting, forecasting, financialreporting, contractual deliverables, and compliance with funders and statutorybodies, while managing financial resources, staff, and assets. The Directordelivers accurate, timely financial information to Executive Directors, Boards,and stakeholders to support informed decision-making and strong governance.

Financial Leadership & Strategy
  • Oversee complex operational andcapital budgets, financial reporting, and cash flow to provide accurate,timely, and actionable insights for decision-making
  • Develop monthly forecastsand scenario alternatives to support decision-making and long-term planning
  • Establishand report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve organizationalinsight, identify areas for improvement and increase organizational responsiveness
  • Provide strategic financial advice to the Executive Director, leadership, andBoard/Finance Risk and Audit Committee
  • Supportfunding strategies, grant applications, and budget development for externalproposals
  • Advise oncapital planning schedule, reserve management, and long-term financialsustainability
  • Lead documentation process andprocedures within finance department including regular review and edits of theFinance policies
  • Identifyfinancial risks and provide recommendations for mitigation
  • Lead the project to replace thecurrent accounting program, including product recommendation, procurement and implementationof new software program to further the operational efficiency and financialreporting functionality of the organization
  • Improvetimeliness, efficiency and usefulness of internal and external reporting
  • Contributeto the development and implementation of strategic plans and operational plans witha financial lens
Financial Management, Reporting & Compliance
  • Oversee the full accounting function, includingreview of bank reconciliations, journal entries, payroll, accounts payable,accounts receivable, and statutory reporting
  • Contributesto the preparation of complex funding proposal budgets and grant applicationbudgets to corporations, foundations, all levels of government, externalassociations and community partners
  • Overseeand lead the external financial reporting on organizational contracts includingbut not limited to $10/Day & MCFD Contracted Services
  • Ensures all statutory reporting and remittancesoccur on an accurate and timely basis (including all Payroll reporting, T4's,WCB reports, GST and Annual Information Returns)
  • Prepares and analyzes monthly operatingstatements for each department and distributes to Executive Directors, ProgramDirectors, Board, and Finance Risk and Audit Committee for their informationand action
  • Present information to the Board and to the FinanceRisk and Audit Committee meetings; collaborates prior to the meeting with ExecutiveDirector and Board Treasurer to prepare documents for presentation
  • Oversee and monitor internal controls to ensureaccounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory andorganizational policies and procedures
  • Lead process improvement within the financedepartment to reduce risk and ensure succession planning and cross training
  • Lead the annual audit process and managerelationships with external auditors. Effectivelyrespond to any auditor concerns
  • Strengthen internal controlsand financial processes to reduce organizational risk. Develop reasonabilitytesting on more material items like payroll and audit findings
Operations, Systems & Team Leadership
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the financedepartment to ensure efficiency and reliability
  • Recruit,train, supervise, mentor, and develop finance team of 3 members, made upof Finance Manager, Finance Coordinator and RegistrationCoordinator
  • Annualreview and performance management for all direct reports
  • Lead theannual budgeting process
  • Ensurereliable and useful information is presented for budget, actual and varianceinformation
  • Implementand optimize financial systems and tools to improve efficiency and reportingquality
  • Regularlyassess, review, implement improvements and document standardized financeprocesses to improve accuracy, reduce risk and improve continuity
  • Enhancethe accessibility and usefulness of financial information across theorganization
  • Serves asprimary contact for Agency banking relationships
  • Supportinsurance renewals
  • Advise oncapital acquisition strategies and monitor capital investment and reserves
  • Implementmore formal monthly reconciliations and close processes include monthly entriesfor balance sheet line items including deferred capital contributions,amortization, deferred revenue, payroll accruals and others
Qualifications
  • Criminal Record Check clearancerequired prior to employment
Experience
  • Advanced Accounting experiencein the non-profit sector – mandatory
  • Formal leadership and staffsupervision experience
  • Demonstrated ability to leadthe finance teams of multi-funded Agencies
  • Experience in process mapping, newprocess implementation and change management an asset
  • Excellent project managementskills and ability to produce quality work within tight time frames
  • Ability to summarize, interpretand synthesize complex information in a multi funded organization
  • Demonstrated ability to keepcurrent and proactively share knowledge in the field of expertise
  • Knowledge of payroll andbenefits administration
  • Knowledge of MS Office,including use of MS Teams presentation tools
  • Advanced competency in Excel
  • Advanced knowledge ofcloud-based accounting software databases like Sage or Quickbooks
ProfessionalDesignation
  • Chartered ProfessionalAccountant designation – mandatory
Working Conditions
  • This role offers a hybrid workarrangement subject to an alternative working agreement and suitability of workspace;however, employees are expected to attend the office on a weekly basis.
  • Some evening and weekend workrequired (In‑person AGM, virtual Board Meetings and virtual monthly FinanceRisk and Audit Committee meetings)
  • Attendance on site during theannual audit is required
Compensation
  • Wage Range - $93,600 - $117,000 per year, based on education and experience
  • Benefits include Health, Dental, BCI, LTD, AD&D, Up to 50% reduction on childcare fees, Paid certificate renewals
