The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the successful execution of commercial plumbing, electrical, and special projects by providing project coordination, technical administration, procurement, scheduling support, and customer communication. The APM works closely with Project Managers, Operations Managers, and customers to help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with contract requirements.

What you will do:
  • Support Project Managers with the execution of assigned projects.
  • Coordinate project communications between field teams, customers, vendors, subcontractors, fabrication, detailing, and startup personnel.
  • Assist in developing and communicating project schedules and milestones.
  • Participate in project meetings and document action items and follow-up requirements.
  • Develop and maintain:
    • RFI logs
    • Submittal logs
    • Purchase order logs
    • Expediting logs
    • Closeout documentation
  • Prepare and submit RFIs for Project Manager review.
  • Track and distribute RFI responses and project correspondence.
  • Review submittals and shop drawings for compliance with project requirements before PM review.
  • Assist with preparation of operations and maintenance manuals and project closeout packages.
  • Assist with equipment, material, and subcontract procurement activities.
  • Coordinate equipment releases and material deliveries.
  • Monitor lead times and assist with expediting critical deliveries.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Assist in identifying scope issues, document discrepancies, and coordination conflicts.
  • Coordinate submittal and equipment approval processes.
  • Maintain project records and reporting metrics.
  • Assist Project Managers with budget tracking and cost reporting.
  • Support change order development and documentation.
  • Review invoices and billing documentation for accuracy.
  • Develop positive working relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teammates.

You should have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Building Construction, or related field
  • OR Associate degree, technical training, military experience, or equivalent industry experience in construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical contracting.
  • 1-3 years of construction, engineering, project coordination, estimating, field supervision, or project administration experience preferred.
  • Internship or co-op experience in construction management considered applicable.
  • Mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or service construction experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of construction processes, materials, and equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn project management and construction software systems.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
